There's a couple of years between us, and as a local boy, I always thought of him as very much one of us...and of course, he was/is!
One of our finest and one of our own!
Get well soon Gary.
We love you very much!

In my head he's the Gary Shaw youngster who moved like a dancer and had the world at his feet.
Get well Gary, please get well.

There is a privileged generation of Villa fans who will be crestfallen to hear of this. We saw his magnificent rise and painful fall. We were thriiled and pained and we may not see his like again.
God bless ya Gary - and get well soon.

Just been aware of news. Seemed a great flair player and I know hes a Villa hero from the champion and European days and a legend. And he means a lot to many. He was before my time and only have historic knowledge.
But will include in prayers for him in aiding all the best to him in recovery.

Gary was a classy footballer and a clinical finisher. The 21year-old who won the league and European Cup would be a £100m striker nowadays and would be wanted by all of the top clubs in Europe. It was such a shame his career was wrecked by injury. I went out with a girl for a while in 1981 simply because she lived by Gary and could get me his autograph. I wish Gary all the very best in his recovery. A proper Villa legend and one of our own.

Gutted to hear this. Saw him make his debut off the bench at Bristol City and privileged to have watched him sparkle as part of the great side of the early 80s. Absolute class. How he never won an England cap is an absolute travesty.
Please get well Gary, sending all the very best.
