Sounds like Philogene was a late withdrawal so the 2nd keeper is likely in purely because he was at the ground anyway as part of the warm-up squad. If not I'm sure they'd have gone with someone like Young instead, who has been on the bench for us plenty of times.

Do Swinkles and Bogarde count as home grown? Would be good if they're actually up to playing some games this season, that would put us up to 4 homegrown, if they count

They do, but I don't think they need to be listed. If a player was born after January 1st 2003 (they both are) and have been with the club for at least three years (both have) and have had no more than one year on loan (neither has) then they can just be used without being part of the 25 player "A" squad.

So it's still a 23 player squad, but they are outside it and still able to be used.

Bogarde is interesting but Emery did drop a hint yesterday. I guess he’s been around the place longer than Ned, perhaps more in tune with our way.
Ned brings us some pace from the back later on in the game. Playing both Bogarde and Digne shows a level of caution; for the first half, at least.

Interesting that Ned's on the bench for this, maybe Unai doesn't think he'll be able to handle Albrighton on the wing.

More chance of meeting him on the bench than on the wing.
More likely to meet him on the beach. He's retired

Not sure about that team, ideal game to give Ramsey and Maatsen a start I thought.

Apart from maybe Man City and Chelsea there probably isn't a club in the league whose bench doesn't look weaker with 5 or 6 players out.

He isn't injured is he? The injury being mentioned was about why Watkins missed all the pre-season matches. He isn't up to match speed though yet (or wasn't).

Konsa at right back.  Bogarde…

Don't get Digne starting in that situation. We're playing a promoted team and yet starting with two defensive full backs today.

Think that's an error tbh but we'll see in about an hour's time.

Like this, 3 at the back in possession, Digne pushed up.
