It's not just fitness though, it's the integration with the team, and he's not going to have Luiz looking for him with through balls any more. I'm sure he'll be fine, but it's still not exactly ideal.

Yeah i think diabs and luiz are going to be bigger misses than we think. Just hoping JJ and emi can fill that gap as we had neither player for a majority of the season.

Going to need more from youri as well this season.

Two goals and seven assists wasn't bad as a backup midfielder with half the minutes as Luiz last season (and 5 goals taken off Luiz for pens.)

I definitely agree in regard to Luiz and Diaby. Luiz is a big loss for us and i liked Diaby, he had moments of class and I thought he’d improve this season.
There’s no doubt Ramsey is a class act and it’s a huge plus he’s back but replacing Luiz is another matter entirely. I don’t think Buendia will be a starter and will take quite a while to get back up to speed anyway. I’d like to see pace added whoever we buy.

Just need to hope ramsey is over his injury trouble. He has been very unreliable as of late due to injuries. Luiz was always reliable in that regard.

I agree about emi and i would argue he was very inconsistent before the injury. I do think we will score less than last season but hopefully that wont matter if we are robust and concede less goals

I agree with Bronte that I'm glad he's had a longer time off. The Euros seemed to go on forever and the players don't feel like they've had a rest. Even ones like McGinn who went out early.

But you never agree with Bronte...that's seriously messed-up.

Martinez

Nedeljkovic - think he has earned it - replace at 70 mins with Cash

Konsa - Cannot see Carlos in a Villa shirt again

Pau - Our game is based around him

Digne - Need to have one eye on Bowen so experience is required

Onana - will start every game until Kamara is back

Tielemans - his vision will open teams up.

McGinn (centre) - in any formation he is not being left out - Enzo to replace him to see the game out.

Bailey (right) to run the left back ragged for 70 mins - then swap for Philogene to rag them some more

Rogers (Left) The man in form - again make a change for Ramsay / Jr if he tires.

Watkins - fully refreshed but might take a couple of games to get sharpness - 80+ mins bring on Archer / Duran

Thats probably the team i would go for tbh. Dont think maatsen is ready to start yet

I thought we normally dominate possession under Unai? Although admittedly think we will struggle to do that with Onana.
