RIP Alan. Older than me, how did that happen?

He probably had a head start.

Really sad news. Pretty sure I saw him in a Villa shirt away at the Baggies.

His only appreances were 74/75 and none were against Albion.

As I edited, I think I made a confusion. I'd love to know the games he played in as I'm sure I saw him play but I was just a nipper and may have been Villa programmes I read about him. Oh and I hardly missed a game home or away in 74/75 but can't find anything to support his full list of appearances.

Some sites list him as playing the away leg at Chester but he didn't, only Brian did. We'd sold Alan to Southend between the QF and SF.

League unless stated:

Oldham (a) W 2-1
Hartlepool (h) W 6-1 (League Cup)
Oxford (h) D 0-0 (Sub)
Colchester (a) W 2-1 (League Cup)
Bristol C (a) L 1-0
Chester (a) D 2-2 (League Cup)

He scored our first goal at Colchester.

Edit: perhaps not Chester if PWS is correct.

Edit to the edit: it seems that Frank Primblett played at Chester. I confess I've never previously heard of him.

It's nice that he can be appropriately appreciated tomorrow, as the opening game of the season features Southend v York.

I don’t think I ever saw Alan play live but I certainly saw Frank Pimblett. I thought at the time he was going to go on to big things but he fell by the wayside, as many young players do. RIP Alan

Coincidentally, also just died.

Sad news.

Saw Alan and Brian play together for the cup-winning side.

Used to know some Barnsley fans and they raved about how good Alan had been in midfield for them.

I’m very sad to hear this news, thinking of Sir Brian, his family and friends.
