An Immigrant Story by Amadou Onana | The Players’ Tribune

https://www.theplayerstribune.com/amadou-onana-world-cup-soccer-epl-premier-league-aston-villa-belgium

Wow! I found that very moving. Thanks for posting.

Wow! was the also the first thing to come out of my mouth too. A bit of dust in the eyes, must be the pollen.
This grandfather is right, “Focus, eh? Focus, boy.” When he's focused he's a fantastic player.

Thanks for sharing, SaddVillan.

We seem blessed to not just have a squad full of excellent players but a squad full of excellent people.

Articles like that are exactly why I like the guy so much, he's got a great attitude and is exactly the sort of person you'd want to have around talking to young players.

And a big fuck you to that coach in Belgium, what a wanker.
Indeed. I’m glad Onana has called the fucker out.

That video of him laughing and saying 'no sleeping tonight' was wonderful after the final.

I doubt any footballers can write to H&V levels of erudition and humour. Definitely not Konsa, probably not Onana.

That was just a lovely read. How does anyone not love the big man after that. And if anyone rolls out ‘lack of courage’ nonsense, they need to re read that and keep on reading it until they get it.

I really like our squad, they all seem decent sorts. But I have a rule that I only want to know famous people for what they are famous for because they can't be expected to live up to the same random standards in anything else. Then I read something like that.

What a bloke, what a story.

I went to a talk by Dean Smith about building cultures. A lot of these players came in under him, and he makes a point of meeting every player before signing so he can assess whether they’ll be right for the culture he wants to develop.

I think he deserves a lot of credit for laying the foundations that Emery has been able to help push on.

It also explains how someone like Gerrard was never going to keep this group with him.
