Tielemans is miles better than Luiz.

Totally agree.

Part of our problem is not having a similar player to Kamara. Onana isn't it, never has been either. So judging him on trying to cover a position that's not his means he'll never do well enough.

Onana playing his game is brilliant, but he's not allowed to at the moment.

Still, could have been worse. We could have blown our summer budget early on Conor Gallagher.

He would have been a decent option at the moment. He’d be better playing for us than he has been for them.

Trouble is Onana’s game is breaking up play and being useful at set pieces. That’s inadequate for a central midfielder at this level.

Yeah, I'm sueprised it's even a discussion. Kamara and Tielemans are both world class. It won't be acknowledged away from the club, but there aren't many, if any, better central midfield pairings in world football at the minute. Luiz is a good player, but he can't do what Tielemans does and never has.

Another step down from Luiz to Onana.

There are parallels between this and when Luiz was asked to play the Kamara role and was getting some heat for his performances. Although I think Onana is more suited to that role than Luiz, it’s not the best position for either.

We need to be scouting a player with abilities closer to Kamara's game -  whilst accepting that an actual improvement on Kamara is nigh on impossible.

Would've liked to see Barrenechea given a chance to step up. But that looks highly unlikely with the nature of the deal we struck with Benfica.

Yeah, I made the same point a couple of days' ago: given that we didn't make loads on Barrenechea, we'd have been far better hanging on to him. That we didn't may be down to UE's view of Bogarde's potential, but Lamare has not progressed into a reliable DMF in the way expected.
Here's an idea: let's sell Onana to Benfica and bring Barrenechea back!

Onana has shown he’s a really good player. He’s not playing particularly well at the moment, now that might well be on him but virtually every player is struggling. Before writing him off hopefully Unai will have worked out a way to get the whole team functioning again.

It’s a pity Man Utd are utilising Mainoo as he’s decent, could have had a sneaky bid for him while Amiron was in charge.

A sneaky bid last summer would probably have been warmly received. The Man U player I wanted was Amad Diallo. Would suit Unai 100% and technically superior to anybody we've had on the right. There's a player in there.

So what does Onana bring exactly? He can't pass a ball 10 yards so that rules out the playmaker role, leave that to Tielemans or Luiz. He doesn't have Kamara's skill set or tactical awareness, so that rules out playing as the holding 6. He's evidently not a replacement option for Kamara from a succession planning perspective.

Have you looked back at your match reports and see what you've said about him each time?

Or maybe go back to January on this thread and read the posts on there. Or in the months before. We're on a bad run and lo and behold our manager is leaving, all the players are shit and the Chicken Little has gone for another walk.
