A bit worrying that he was withdrawn at half-time. The squad is getting severely stretched. Not having Amadou and suspended Bouba second half makes a huge difference. Hopefully we can bring in some reinforcements in January.

When fit we have Bouba/onana/tielemans/bogarde and McGinn at a push who can play there…..it’s not somewhere we need to look for me…..a top notch striker is what we need….IMO

I agree.
Today we saw the best of Onana. He can be a top notch player.
The ‘made of glass’ problem is the biggest issue.

Hopefully, he’s fit for Saturday and it’s not another lengthy spell out.

Frustrating as he's been playing well recently and then on a night like tonight when we really need him due to others being absent, he's off injured at half-time.  Obviously not his fault that he gets injured, but it's just a bit symptomatic of his time with us really.

Agree, Andy. Tonight was unquestionably his best display in a Villa shirt,  probably any shirt. More of that please and he'll be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Up until fairly recently, he'd missed nearly as many games through injury as he's started.

Huge loss when he went off. Was showing leadership and drive in midfield.

He didn't look too bad when he walked off at Half-time. Probably precautionary to sub him for McGinn. But, that was a main turning point. Arsenal did next to nothing offensively in the first-half.

A rested Kamara (and to an extent McGinn) will be back so it’s not essential he plays. Bogarde provides cover on the bench too.

He was a beast first half last night and dominated them in midfield and the main reason we were arguably on top. Sadly SJM was no replacement and the midfield was lost. You could argue that Bogarde should have been put in there earlier but the physicality of Onana was not replaceable imo.

I think Emery got this wrong, but then maybe bringing Garcia on sooner would have just the same issue.

If he could only stay fit for a long spell.

We’ve usually been better without him in games we dominate possession.

He got whacked a fair few times in that first half with not a lot of protection. The other thing, with the nature of his game, like Kamara, they are going to pick up knocks.  It’s the nature of their role.
