Watched the game again last night, as I do every year if we're at home.

It still takes me a little by surprise that we were on top for the first twenty minutes, doing well to the half-hour mark, but then Bayern began to dominate until we scored.

There's an old football phrase: 'goals change games.' Never truer than in this game. Our goal knocked the stuffing out of Bayern.

“We conquered all of Europe in 1982”

Was notably in that kit reveal video last year,

https://youtu.be/yIIHgy9FeHg?si=TaLc0PxGCGsbj61-

rather than

“We even conquered Europe, in 1982”

The word ‘even’ sticks in my throat as much as I belt it out.
I was grateful for the attention of detail, that takes care not think small.

I was in hospital in 94 and just getting back into footy after a break in ‘96, so realising - play off final thankfully aside- this was my only winning /proper cup final.

Will be interesting to look back on 5 years time.

The word 'even' irritates me as well. Think 'also' would be better.

I remember him on top of Birmingham Town Hall saying “this is the foot” and lifting it up!

That would sound odd to me. The club (or whoever’s) all of Europe sounds better.

‘Even’ smacks of, “we’re not even in the competition these days”.
Well we are now.

Emery made reference to it being ambitious to aim to win it, but that it’s more realistic to win a competition if you are in it.

Quote
Every week we follow
The boys in claret and blue
We conquered all of Europe In 1982
The Villa boys from Aston
We travel near and far
You can hear us singing
From the stands of Villa Park

Allez Allez Allez

Does any footage exist of those town hall momemts? Would stir some very distant happy memories.

Still remember been at the top of Colmore Row with my sister by the 51 bus stop, almost opposite the Council house for the European cup parade. God knows what silly hour we got there!

In the hyperbole of the last week we shouldn't forget what the date is today.

Do we need to have a Happy ISTANBULLL day from now on.

At least when Clive* starts jabbering about "that night in Istanbul", it will no longer be vomit inducing as we can just insert ours in.

*Insert the latest fawning and unoriginal commentators name here.

What happened? I only care about the Europa League. That's where it's at.
