Transfer priorities
« on: May 14, 2024, 11:23:38 AM »
So assuming everybody like Mings, Rmasey and Buendia etc all come back at the level they're capable of, what do you think are the main requirements for this summer. In my opinion, it's something like:

1) Right back. I really like Cash, and think he gets a bit too much stick at times. But Emery doesn't appear completely sold on him, and the young lad we bought isn't going to be ready, so a good attacking right back is high on the list.

2) Left back. It seems like Digne might be moved on to free up his wages. Lucas has mostly been very good this season, and he would leave with my thanks. Moreno was very good last season, but injuries have meant he hasn't really done much this year, and he's 31 next month, so a top flight replacement please.

3) Defensive midfielder. Obviously Kamara is due back but it might not be until the second half of the season, and this season has shown it's a really key position, so I'd like a big money reinforcement. Worst case scenario, we've then got two really good defensive midfielders for the second half of the season.

The rest of midfield and attack I think we're largely good, and also in defence, although we might need a better back up than Carlosor Lenglet. If we do bring in another forward it needs to be someone mobile who can play anywhere across the front line.

Im not sure if we will go for an attacking RB or a defensive one that can play CB when needed too.

Someone like Geertruida or St. Juste.

I agree about the rest...

I'd like to retain Digne, he's had a very good season.  Getting fullbacks that fit always seems to be a problem for us, now we have one in such good form I'd rather not mess with it, particularly as we'll be looking for a right back too.  I guess it's up to him whether he's prepared to sign a contract at a level where we want to keep him.

Agree on everything else.

Yep, fully agree - Improve quality (and age) of both fullbacks, and a straight swap for Kamara. At a push, a top level central defender too - Young enough, but has been there, done that.

I think in general, if we get everyone back fit and firing, midfield and forward line can cope for another season with FFP breathing down our necks.

I'd rather keep as him as well, but I was working on what appears to be the accepted wisdom that his wages are a bit on the high side.

Agree with all of those as priority, I wonder if the muted deal for the guy at Athletico Madrid will sort out the left back one. If Digne is going back to France maybe have a word with Lille and see if we can do a part-ex with both their full backs, they both impressed me as much as anyone I've seen this season.

New RB and LB are absolutely essential. Also a stand in for Kamara, Tim isn't that man sadly.

Not Santos (No 22)  He was an absolute prick from the Bruno school of cuntery.  And no, he's not the sort of player I'd love if he played for us.

Looking at that, I may as well have just copied your post and agreed Risso 😅

If we're looking to strengthen at centre back at all then Raphael Varane is available free this summer. 31 and injury prone so not going to play every week, but as an experienced option? Would come along for the CL football I would think

As I keep saying, forget about us taking on any drek from Old Trafford with their existing wages.

The suggestion the other week was that we were prioritising a ‘box to box midfielder.’

Agree with every word in the OP tbh. Maybe an upgrade on Carlos, but only if we get a good fee for him. Mings/Torres Konsa/Carlos should be more than enough.

Cash...no idea anymore. Consistency a problem at the minute, but he hasn't had a good run in the team in his actual position for a while. I rated him for a long time, but there's a bit of doubt there now.
