Brighton and Hove Albion vs Aston Villa Pre-Match
« on: May 03, 2024, 09:01:07 AM »
Sunday 5th May in Falmer at 2pm
This is a might like to win game that could allow us the liberty to do a "remontada" in Athens. Champions League we might be having a laugh but we'll never know until we qualify.
1-3 FTCSF!

My first of (hopefully after last night) 2 away games this season. I will be spending pre match strolling up and down the front eating ice cream and wearing a Kiss Me Quick Hat.

As for the game........

It has to be full strength, Pau will be back I would expect and I pray to the Lord that Emi is fit. If not I'd give the other bloke a go, but I know the Manager won't. If Tielemans is fit I'd rest Doug, but I don't think the Manager will do that either.

The result is more important than the performance and we'll sneak it if we are full strength. If not, we may draw.

0-1

Send the U21s down there and leave Unai and the first team back at Bodymoor concentrating on Thursday.
I realise that might scupper our Birmingham Senior Cup chances and delay the open top bus tour for finishing 4th but we have to concentrate 100% on the European tournament we’re still just about in.

Looking forward to this game. Long drive, but hopefully a good atmosphere with a chance to get closer to securing top-four.

Emi on one leg. Emi on no legs, even. And Pau back (I think I read that he's been playing through a slight injury, which is why he didn't play last night) should also make a big difference.

The major problem is the midfield. I don't know what to do about not only Doug, but also the problems he and McGinn have playing together. It was just a gaping hole last night, and against Chelsea they seemed to have no idea how to play through the lines - their most important job in an Emery team. Lenglet in midfield? Playing the two of them plus Tim to jam the centre up a bit?

I really don't know. But I do think that, on current form, we can't play our loosest midfield two with Rogers, Bailey AND Diaby. Even playing well the three of them are risk-takers, and it gives our midfield play a skitty, seat-of-the-trousers feel. We're going to need our control back somehow.

Well there's a good history down at Brighton and 3pts would be a really good way to pressure Spurs and virtually consolidate our Champions League position.
It's amazing what the team have achieved this season really.

Brighton have failed to win any of their last 6 matches in the league
And  Villa have scored 2 or more goals in 7 of past 10 away matches. I think have looked very good away from home in recent games and backing Villa to win!

Couple of changes for rest and rotation
Olsen or Gaucci could feature?
Konsa, Diego Carlos, Pau Torres, Digne,
Douglas Luiz, McGinn, Iroegbunam,
Diaby, Rogers
Duran , Watkins.

Having won 6-1 at Villa park I think it will be a strong showing again
3-1 win!
Watkins X2 and Duran.

Going for a 1-1 draw. Think Liverpool will beat Spurs which will leave us tantalisingly close, and it will be clinched at home to Liverpool.

Not sure about your mathematics skills Footy, but with a goalkeeper that makes 12 players starting?

Brighton fans - online at least - are getting quite critical of their manager, several reckon they won't get another point all season. Now with Villa in town let's not be the ones handing out the usual presents please. 2-1 Villa.
