Bof, no. We sing HEITS, it's organic, it's unique to us, it sends chills up the spine. Why is that not enough?

I guess anyone who doesn't like folk music would always hate it.  And let's face it, any song written about a football club will always be a bit cringe.  If some of it makes it to a chant it won't sound folky then. I'd take a wild stab that Risso and any metal heads on here weren't too keen on Achy-breaky heart but love the SJM song.

But I think it's unlikely that we'll hear it sung in the Holte any time soon.

There's a difference between trying to knock out an 'anthem' and just a player song which is a few seconds long and can be to any random tune at all.

I'd be surprised if many other clubs fans have heard it or know what it is.  Five words of it get sung by the Holte Upper, but it's hardly an anthem.

It's not for other fans though.

The point is you could take a line or two from that song and it would make a decent chant.  But yes, anthem is unlikely.

An anthem is usually linked to a clubs identity.  HEITS is not that.  It's not even sung stadium-wide.

Always has been iconic for me at least! And you know to be fair, there is an important section of this forum named for it. And like I say, it's unique as a song template so far as I know.

I know what you mean Monty and yes HEIST has an important place.  I'm just not sure many would see it as a club anthem.

Manufactured anthems rarely work, but everything has to start somewhere.

HEITS is great and very much a Villa song, but it's not the club anthem.

I doubt this one will be either, I do think for what it is that it's better than most though and for that I quite like it.

We need to stop trying for an anthem because we all know that anybody who puts the effort in to create one will be met by the usual criticism and negativity on display. is wasting their time because you can't dictate these sort of things. They happen or they don't.

Exactly, and any time spent trying is a waste that could've been better spent knocking up kit, crest or AI stadium designs.
