The referee spoiled our style of play by booking our GK for legally keeping a ball at his feet in open play.

Totally knocked out all our planning.

In European competition you always have to factor in the fuckeries.

But UEFA parachuting in that fool of a ref in is hard to reconcile. Was he a competition winner?

Slovak football might not be exactly where it wants to be in 2024. But they can shirely do better than Ivan Kružliak in the refereeing department.

Downside normally is because they have better country teams still in it, they have to pick refs who don't have a national bone to pick, hence the refs we get.

Agreed the ref was atrocious, completely out of his depth and I would have been alleging corruption if it wasn't for that he was pretty uniform in his ineptness for both teams.

Full penalty shoot-out for anyone who missed it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zJaf-JRmf5E

Thank you. I can watch it now.

Ha, same here. Went to another room and was trying to gauge how it had gone, by the number of WhatsApp messages pinging my phone during it. Can enjoy it now. 8)

A few thoughts..

Im guessing Emi is now suspended?
Is rogers not suspended - as got booked in the last round? and tonight.
Seems crazy that cash took a pen before digne - digne seems like he would be a natural - but well done matty for the stepping up!!
When do the tickets go on sale for the semi!!

If he's suspended for accumulated yellows then it stands, they wipe yellow cards not suspensions. Fuck knows how it works with the penalty yellow though as i've never seen that before.

UEFA should let him play, just to boost the viewing figures.

Although they specifically mention pending yellow card suspensions being lifted, whatever that means. Olympiacos has their defender suspended because he was also shown a Red.

Listening to people on phone-ins going on about using foreign refs to sort out VAR. Clearly, none of them have actually seen a foreign ref at work.

Just watching the penalty shoot out.

Blimey, that commentator.

Also, I noticed that when Douglas Luiz was still in his run up to take our fifth penalty, the referee could be seen making a step in the direction of the ball which, albeit slight, was potentially in the eyeline of Luiz and distracting. That wasn't right.
