Why are people arguing about signing a player we are never going to sign?

The only previous headline I can remember featuring Sterling was when he, the multimillionaire footballer, bought his mother a house. The absolute heartless arsehole!!

It's a big sack of nothing, IMO. And you seem to have extrapolated one statement to smear an entire career. What other examples are there of him "attracting attention for largely the wrong reasons"?

Well, I disagree with you, i don't think it's a big sack of nothing. It happened literally a few days ago, so it looks pretty relevant.

I said I think he would be a big distraction for us and that he'd disrupt dressing room equilibrium, and doesn't seem to me to be an Emery type player.

I haven't said he's shit. I haven't 'smeared an entire career', you gigantic drama queen.

I said he tends to attract a lot of attention - and he does - he's a high profile player, but that sort of attention seems to be something of a media circus.

If you are trying to in some way to extrapolate something else from what I'm saying, like, oh I dunno, he's some kind of uppity black man who should know his place, or he's got a big tattoo of a gun on his leg, just come out and say it.

I'm not sure what I've done to deserve that abuse, tbh. We disagree about the significance of the statement, that's fine. You said "He is a player who just attracts attention largely for the wrong reasons", I asked for examples beyond the statement. I genuinely don't know where you're getting this from so was wondering if there is something that I don't know about.

I dunno, it just seemed to me that 'smearing a whole career' or besmirching or whatever it was was ridiculously over the top for my comments. Hence the 'abuse' of suggesting you were being 'a drama queen'.

You asked for an example of how he attracts attention for the wrong reasons and I gave one from literally this week.

What you said suggested a continuous pattern of behaviour, as opposed to one statement. That's what that meant, maybe didn't word it very well. I was wondering what behaviour it was that has led you to your belief that he attracts attention largely for the wrong reasons.

Well, maybe try taking my points that have  been made and requested people to look at from Sterling's perspective and understanding to how the media has treated him all his career and all of the struggles and battles he has faced. It's so clear.
There is nothing else to say because all of the evidence shows that he is a mature and professional footballer who brings experience, has a good character, and does God's work.

I think that everyone who continues to argue against Sterling and accuses him of having an ego, being a troublesome guy, and causing difficulty has been taken in by the media.

If Sterling does sign I do hope that some kindness is shown to a great player who is clearly misunderstood because of how the media have portrayed him.

I think him being problematic does seem to be a media driven narrative with very little actual evidence. That statement the other day was the first one I think that has any.

He's surrounded by a constant media circus, the focus on him never seems to be about on the pitch and what he can do, rightly or wrongly. That's just the way it is with him. It's always about him agitating for a move here or there, or doing this or that off pitch, he just creates a noise way beyond what he actually delivers on the pitch.

The press are absolutely obsessed with him. Regardless of whether he has done anything to deserve it or not, I think he would be a distraction for the team which, in my view, makes him not worth the risk.

And again, even ignoring all this other nonsense, purely that piece of ridiculous self-centred guff from the weekend, from any player, would put me off them.

I'm not saying he's shit, I am not besmirching an entire career, I just don't think he's the sort of player Emery would go for, and I'd rather we didn't.

It's that, and nothing else.

You're probably right, but even that, I just don't think we need the distraction. Like I said, several times now and I'm getting bored of it, he generates attention for reasons other than what he does on the pitch. It'd cost us a fortune to get him in, and I don't think that's what we need right now.

Can we all agree that he runs like he’s about to shit himself?

Who was it that was caught on camera training for their club a few years ago doing a bad impression of the way he runs?

Although way of running is not a problem I'd struggle with. SJM runs like he has a heavy carrier bag of shopping over each arm.

I love how he runs, you would never guess he was a professional sportsman.

Like a more mobile Dendonker run.

I think he'd do really well in our side and with the squad we have if he approached it correctly could give the experience that we would hugely benefit from in the champions league etc.

To be fair, Michael Johnson had that "just shit himself" running style and he was fairly swift.
