I had total faith in the backroom team headed up by SUE / Monchi and think we have done some very good business especially with Maatson (who i think will be a real asset once indoctrinated into the ways of SUE)
Onana - i think will be great
Kosta - will be a fan favourite.

I do worry though that the likes of The Donk, Moreno, Olsen are still here and we have seemingly glaringly on going sagas with Duran / Carlos

Even with Carlos / Duran not wanting away we are still light in 2 critical areas:

Right sided CH (a left sided would not go a miss in case Mings has a set back)
An attacking #10 to replace Diaby.

I think we have a couple of final day loans also

We're now a competitor to Chelsea. I wouldn't put it past them to fuck about with Felix even if they have no intention of signing him. It undermines our interest & makes the narrative that he sees us as a step down.

We have a solid recruitment department now, if felix isnt happening we will have alter alternatives I'm sure.

Dutch lad getting close apparently

What surprises me most is why a player would want to go to Chelsea - Palmer is the only one who has moved there and its done him so good.  And hell probably have to be sold for the rest.

I know I am basis - but I don't see why seemingly Felix and Gallagher would rather be at Chelsea then Villa.  I didn't really want either - I would like a real top draw signing or two, but I think the guy we got from Everton is better than Gallagher

Centre half worries me the most. We were poor at set plays last year and this Dutch lad seems a very good player, but not by all accounts a centre half. We've lost Lenglet and Carlos potentially, neither a great loss but played a lot of games. For me, if we could move Carlos and Cash out and sign Chalobah as well as this Geertruida we would have a solid base without needing to rush Mings. As it is, if we only get Geertruida, we are an injury from a crisis there.

can play centre back and right back. Both positions we need depth.

Yep, plus our right-back often tucks in as a third centre-back, so he does sounds like a promising candidate for assimilation.

He sounds perfect for us, but still think we are light there. Maybe Bogarde is ready to be one of the 4 though.

Torres
Konsa
Mings
Dutch guy
Bogarde

Assuming CBs look like this, we have to be pretty happy with that?

🚨🟣🔵 Talks between Lutsharel Geertruida and Aston Villa continue even today, negotiations ongoing.

He’s high on #AVFC list as exclusively revealed last week, waiting on Diego Carlos.

All depends how fit, how fast Mings is really

Lenglet was cover for Mings, who is due back in a month.

Carlos would be replaced by Geertruida, and Bogarde has also looked impressive in pre-season. Konsa can play CB too, and with Nedeljkovic doing well in pre-season, RB is covered.

We also have signed bigger players than we had (see Onana as a prime example), so hopefully the days of McGinn marking the opposition's biggest player are over too.

Gallagher is a Chelsea lad and been there forever. It's hardly a shock he'd want to stay (see Ramsey. J for us) as for Felix, he's been at Chelsea before and seemingly liked it. Plus, we haven't made an offer, yet.

I’d like us to go for Eze for the number 10 role, perhaps offering Carlos in part ex and or Cash ( the player not the cash, you know what I mean) or potentially Bogarde/Moreno?
