Luton Town vs Aston Villa pre-match thread
« on: February 26, 2024, 07:58:26 PM »
 8)

Saturday 2nd March, kick-off 5:30pm.

Obviously Luton are no pushovers, play good stuff and you see the best of them at home, but any dropped points would be a disappointment here.

We're in good form now so for that reason, I'm going to shock you all and back us to win this game.

Both teams to score, Villa win by two goals.

FTF.

It'll be a goal fest and another 4-2 win for us, leaving Nick Owen in a foul mood on Midlands Today.

Cliche, but we need to stop them getting up a head of steam. They’ll try for set pieces and load it into the box, which isn’t exactly how they always play but they’ll be aware of our fallibility defending corners/crosses.

We need to control the ball and just make our higher quality pay - I think we will and we’ll win 3-1.

Not sure whether the Everton verdict will take the wind out of Luton or put a rocket up them. We'll see. They usually look a good bet to score a goal or two but they cannot defend at all. I expect us to score 2-3 in our current form. Can they score as many? I don't think so. In fairness, this is even more of a must-win for Luton now because of the gap they have to safety. That could well suit us as they can't really go into too much of a low block (in fairness they don't tend to, possibly to their detriment).
Villa win and it's a game we really don't want to drop points in because we'll be hitting a tougher period soon.

Did we last play them at Kenilworth Road in the Ch'shit or back in '92?

We haven't won a top flight game there since October 1989. In fact, that's our only league win at theirs ever, in 16 attempts!

Time for Unai to break another record in that case.

My earliest memories of following the Villa are a bit mixed-up but it definitely contains elements of being bullied by Luton Town every time we played them.

I remember Brian Stein scoring a header in a 1-0 win for them at Villa Park, can’t remember exactly when, possibly 1985.

I think part of how we do here, relies on the centre back partnership. I’d worry a little bot about Chambers Lenglet and feel there would be goals in this for Luton. If Torres plays it changes everything.

2-1 us (Watkins, Bailey)

Think you will find that with 20 points from 25 games they are a bit of pushover.

Didn't realise they were still in the Cup so instead of having 10 days to prepare for this game (they played their league game early last midweek cos of Liverpool being in the Milk Cup final), it's only 4 days. Meanwhile Don Unai will have had a full week to craft his plan. 1-5 scoreline incoming!

We didn’t exactly have to break much sweat to beat them back in the autumn and whilst they were always trying to play football we could and should have scored more than the three we did get. Control the ball and possession more widely and we’ll be much too good for them.

With Micah Richards waddling around the pitch, being made an absolute fool of. We lost.
