Pubs in Town for Luton.
« on: February 26, 2024, 02:51:15 PM »
At a gig in Digbeth on Saturday evening and need some suggestions as to where to watch the game in town.

With Blues being at home, anywhere in Digbeth is likely to have a few of them milling around post-match, so I'd rather not be in the same pub as them (Nortons, Hennesseys).

Recommendations welcome!

Centre of town, the Trocadera will have it on, it is what it is in there. If you want to venture out a bit, the Lord Clifden in Hockley will have it on and is a nice pub and you won’t get many noses mulling around there.

The Clifden is up for sale for £700k at the moment.

We are normally at the games - so no idea about pubs in town showing matches. The Troc maybe an option and not too far to walk to Digbeth then.

I'd read that it was the result of a Fire Service inspection and that punter numbers were to be limited due to there only being one escape from the garden down that corridor to the front, which made its ongoing profitability unviable. Not sure I believe that as, its always been that way for 10 years or so without note and, there must be hundreds of London pubs with exactly the same access, and if people are outside I'd guess them being outside the other side of the building isnt quite so important?

Probably just lack of customers and rising overheads.

The new owners "refurbed" it and killed it. Crap food and crap beer.

The guy that owned it, along with the Red Lion, sold them both for a couple of million - the new owners have lost a fortune on it.

The Trocadero is usually a good shout. The Roebuck would be another.

Whatever you do keep away from Sherlock street because that’s where they gather when they are angry and angry they will be after Southampton drill them a new orifice.

The Troc is your best bet. I didn't know The Roebuck had screens. The Head Of Steam has screens but I haven't been in there for a while.

I forgot about the Head Of Steam. I was in there on Saturday and the baggies game was on.

Snobs is pretty good for the football if you're in Brum.
If you're in luton the Red Lion is the only half decent pub in town I know

Bit too close to Digbeth when the noses are at home. I've no idea if they use there but I'd give it a swerve if I was them. There's better options.
