I can't remember us ever losing so many pre season games before
Barely creating a chance in the ones we lost.

At Dusseldorf airport on the way back, great trip. Playing without a striker we looked a bit toothless, were doing fine before a daft penalty and a mix up left us 2 nil down. Unai clearly using pre season to experiment with the squad, looked better 2nd half and should have scored. Atmosphere was so so, YNWA before the game and fabricated PA stuff after a goal but no singing from the Yellow Wall to speak of. The stadium itself is superb, as is the surrounding area. Locals very friendly and didn't see or hear of any incidents.

I've never really liked using available points as a stat. Everyone drops points, even Man Citeh. 25 points from 17 games is easier to understand as a metric imo. Extrapolated over a season that would give us 55 points, which would have seen us 9th last season.

The more damning stat in terms of late season drop off is 13 points from the last 11. Smaller sample size but extrapolating that over a season is 44 points.

Or 3 wins from the last 11 league matches, 5 from the last 17 in all competitions. Neither of which sound great.

Thanks to everyone posting a short list of their experiences after trip to Dortmund. Gives a picture how it was there to us not travelling.

Isn't the answer to scratchy form in pre-season not a simple one? One of the best forwards in the league hasn't played a single minute of it. We've played moments of games without a centre forward and we've relied upon our 3rd choice in Archer for others.

I had a dream last night that we didn’t play very well against Arsenal. We were 1-0 down when I woke up. Mind you the pitch was a waterlogged quagmire, which seems unlikely to be the case on 24th August.

We should have stuck to playing Walsall and Chasetown.

So basically a masochistic wet dream?
