I wonder whether we're getting a little precious because the rest of the world doesn't mirror our frankly weird obsessions. If you're neutral or disinterested, why would you bore your readership with endless detail about a team that rarely matters?

It's more that we do as well as we did earlier in the season and the best we get is a couple of weeks of 'wow! hey look at that! anyway Spurs'.

Yeah, but the alternative is asking turkeys to vote for Christmas. More people are interested in Spurs.

Last time I went there, we found the 'Bottom Bench' in Hammersmith and had a beer or three at a pub just off Hammersmith Bridge, just over the road from Ian Dury's old flat. I can remember all that but not the score.

Probably 10 years ago now but we were in the pub before a Fulham game and Nigel Kennedy and Spizz were both drinking in there. Complete opposite ends of the musical spectrum represented by 2 Villa fans.

They render themselves exactly like the rest of the market by doing so though. The Athletic (I know, I know) has shown us that a better world is possible, dammit [wipes away tear].

Yes, for obsessives. The Guardian occupies a 'general interest' space (and is free), hence endless 'big six' shite.

Is this an excuse for the Villa section of the weekend preview knowing so little about the Villa so as to say that Diaby's omissions have been 'puzzling'?

I just don't think it matters.

It's the chicken and egg though especially in the case of Spurs.

Are more people interested in Spurs, or are they talked about more simply because they're talked about more? I think in their case in particular it's because they're sworn rivals of two other clubs that have been hugely successful for different reasons in the last 20 years, namely Arsenal and Chelsea, and due to the bants driven 'national' (lol) radio shite like Talksport.

That's what I was trying (and failing) to say. It's the old thing of perpetuation.

It's one thing for the media to fixate on the media 6 and another for a football writer to be so ill-informed as to question why Diaby hasn't been starting games.

We all know why he's not starting . the mainstream media get much more basic things wrong about us than this so i don't see why this is coming as a surprise  ;D

I’ve given up reading the guardians football output and listening to its podcast.  It was annoying me too much!  I still dip into the political sketch stuff (Marina Hyde can be quite brilliant I think) and some of the opinion pieces (Raphael Behr in particular).  But the football coverage, Barry Glendenning aside, comes across as really smug.
