I've had to back out of our annual football team trip to Amsterdam this year in July due to other financial commitments so this draw was bloody typical, I now have to miss out twice on a trip to my favourite place.

To those going enjoy yourselves, it will take some going not to, although I'd imagine Flin5stone would give it a good go.

It's not the same unless you're with tiny Tim.

The unused drum kit is particularly poignant.

Firstly, commiserations to those fans who were frustrated, disappointed or thoroughly annoyed by the site yesterday and couldn't get a ticket for the game.
Miraculously, I managed to secure mine by 10.03. After over sixty years of following Villa I finally get to see them away in Europe...and what a tasty game and venue.  Despite being a season ticket holder for many years, professional and family commitments meant I couldn't get to games on the continent. (I can recall how jealous I was that tickets for that wonderful night in Rotterdam went on general sale).
Thanks to Unai, we are back on the European trail and now I'm retired, I'm lucky enough to have the time and resources to go abroad. I booked Amsterdam in October but couldn't get an Alkmaar ticket and watched the game with fellow Villains in a bar. This time I'll get to see the real thing.
I'm travelling solo so am looking forward to reading here about where Villains are meeting up.
I'll be taking in the Van Gogh museum this time. Those who like Banksy might want to explore the Moco museum.
To those who missed out....your time will hopefully come.
To those who will be there...see you in Amsterdam and UTV.
Great post. I will look out for you whilst wandering up and down Voorburgwal and Zeedijk. I will be wearing a trilby hat and carrying a copy of Times under my left arm😃

I made the Anne Frank drum kit joke to an audience in Amsterdam- went down like a pork sausage at a bat mitzva.

I was listening to an Italian newspaper's Premier League podcast today, they were talking about the matches this week involving the English sides in Europe, and the guy said, on Thursday, referring to our match, 'a fixture that immediately makes you want to watch it, just based on the names of the teams involved', and spoke of it as a titanic match up between sides that have ruled Europe.

Respect.

Scouting report from watching their game at home to Utrecht earlier.

Ajax now play a back three, although it appears that nobody has told Ajax's defence this key information.
Their keeper is excellent with both feet.
Ajax swarm forward on transition and their midfield only leaves Henderson back when they press. They're not that bothered about tracking back when the press doesn't work and it's easy to get through the middle and then down the wing.
Their defence is all over the shop with any kind of pressure.
Their number 2 has just been sent off, not sure if this means he misses Thursday.
There's a twat with a megaphone, but at least he appears to be following the game, unlike the twat with a megaphone in Warsaw.
