I simply don't understand the obsession with qualifying for the CL.
We've over-achieved this season.
We're guaranteed European football next season, and that in a competion that's a step up from the one we're currently playing in, but that we should be able to at least compete in.
I would have played a second team at Brighton and rested the players we're going to need on Thursday.
We've done so very well this season, I'd take the chance (and I know it's only a chance) of silverwear over qualification for a competition which is still beyond us.

You don't know when we'll get a chance as good as this again for top 4. Chelsea are showing signs of getting their shit together for example and will almost certainly be much stronger next season. If we weren't 2-0 down and in terrible form, you'd have a point possibly, but as it is we've absolutely no chance of getting to the final in my opinion, I'd say we're far more likely to lose again on Thursday. Let's concentrate on hauling ourselves over the line to get 4th.

Why? So we can play a couple of games in it and focus on the league next season?

It makes no sense to chuck a Semi-Final when you're 2-0 down to focus on trying to be 4th in another competition.

Because what's the point in bothering going for champions league? A bit more cash? To do the same with? We're already in the Europa League next season, and we'll earn good cash from that too. So let's go all out to win the one thing we can actually win.

Newsflash - the Champions League is changing from next season so everybody plays a minimum of eight games. And yes, it would mean more money, as well as more prestige and global recognition, our better players feeling like they don't have to move to play in it, attracting better players who want to be in it, denying our rivals a spot in it...apart from that, nah, completely pointless.

I don't think our players would leave if we didn't get into it this season. We are in the Europa already. Other players will see how much we've improved and Emery, Ayesteran, Monchi etc and want to be part of it.

I'd rather we go for it on Thursday, throw everything at it, and try and win something. Then, at home, against Liverpool we need to raise the roof and help them get some energy to win.

Even if we lost against them we'd be fine the next day. The odds are so heavily in our favour for the Champions League place anyway that we should go all out to win a trophy.

Old News Reminder: We haven't won a trophy for 28 years. This is one of the best chances we've had since.

Yes it’s an opportunity, but it’s a pretty big ask now.

I think a tight game and a goal after say 75 mins has them shitting more. The closer it is the harder it is to see it disappear. Obviously an early goal would be great but the first goal whenever it comes will be the key.

To be fair, in any game, when I see people say "game over" when a second goes in at around the 70th minute, I always think "Have they never seen a team score 2 in 20 minutes before?". We have 90. 1 deflected flukey goal can change everything. Granted, we look knackered and don't look great, but it's really far from over. I think there will be a point when they sit deeper and deeper, which is a mentality that happens often in football when you are scared to lose a lead, the pressure will build, and it will be all us. It will just be a case of whether we take the chances. I fancy us to be up 2-1 with 80 on the clock and giving them an onslaught. We may well get hit on the break, but I think it'll be on.

It feels strange being positive. Now Spurs...

That's the consensus with us too. Although we've been drinking Moretti since half 4, so who knows.

This is when I start seeing a jammy Olympiacos deflection off a corner after three minutes.

We are more than capable of turning this around. But with our depleted and tired squad, we need our gameplan to be absolutely spot on.

The team have been given a break, but I expect Emery will be going over everything he can to prepare for Thursday in the sessions they have left.
