Got to remember too, he's not a right back, so is learning on the job here.
He seems a bit too short to be a centre-back to me so I'd guess his future will have to be full-back or DM?

He's just under 6ft 1in, apparently.

Wonder how many times people have said that about Man Utd's Martinez.

I don't know how it works at such gargantuan heights...

Probably quite a few.  But there's a reason the vast majority of top level centre backs are much taller.

Carlos Puyol, superb central defender, Fabio Cannavaro, one of the best central defenders i've ever seen. Both relative short arses so it can be done, although not that often admittedly.

As for Lamar, i think he's an excellent footballer but not all that quick. I think the jury is out in terms of his actual defending but he's only young, has only played a few and he's got plenty of time to develop.

Franco Baresi, 5ft 9".

Yep, another of the best i've ever seen. So this lanky CB requirement is starting to fall apart :-)

Apart from the odd exception, most tall footballers aren't....well......tall.

I think his best position is defensive midfield. It's a big ask to start his Premier League career at right back, a position which he's not really that accustomed to. He was definitely under instructions to be cautious & the players seemed a bit reluctant to give him the ball.

But, he's performed well so far & from the current crop of under 21 players he's the one I thought could make a career at this level. Though I doubt he'll get much of a look in as a defensive midfielder with the options we have.

I think being tall as a central defender is more of a benefit in the Premier League than it is in other major Europen Leagues.

Fair enough.  I thought he looked shorter tbh.

Paul Parker was a decent shortarsed cented half.
