Anyone else notice how pussed off SJM was with Kamara when the ref showed the red?
McGinn needs to stop manhandling players in the box at corners or he's going to get punished for it one game

I absolutely don't get why players feel the need to do that, not only is it unnecessary, all it does at best is to cause mayhem in your own penalty box, and at worst a penalty.

I can't remember which channel it was now -  the one that had Tactics Team in the studio - but they had a former ref analysing some of the decisions (the non-pen for Mee being one of the) and I'm paraphrasing, but he said that when it comes to pulling/holding etc at corners, if both players are doing it, then they're decided they're not going to give penalties this season, which might explain why pens are so rarely being awarded even though it happens in every game.  Basically he's only going to get pulled up on it if the other player doesn't grab him at all.  But Mee gave as good as he got in that incident.

First win at Brentford in (most of) our lifetimes.

1953 in case you're wondering.
Feb 4th 1953
FA Cup 4th round replay
Brentford 1-2 Villa

How many times have we played them in those years?

Brentford haven't exactly been known as a top flight powerhouse throughout history...

I had to sleep off a night shift yesterday afternoon and managed to even avoid the score before MOTD2 (which these days means switching off every device I have), and given that MOTD highlights are never a great indicator of how a game really went, I wonder if it really was as even as they made it out to be. The BBC text stats, again to be fair not a great indicator of reality because they don't indicate the quality and effectiveness of possession, for example, indicate that we bossed it on just about every level

Before the sending off, it felt a bit similar to Forest away. Most of the possession without ever really looking like scoring. Diaby had another off day, and Ramsey looked 'rusty' to be kind to the lad. Ollie was working hard as ever without getting any decent service and Cash was ineffective out wide. The defence was sound though, and Torres played very well, as did Kamara and McGinn. Bailey was great when he came on and changed the game again.

agree totally with this summary

I like most of all that we are doing all this without the stupid money Cit£y, Arsenal, Liver  pool and Redscum have threw at it

McGinn caught Mee early in the gave and gave him a bloody nose which was an added bonus to the games proceedings.

It will almost always be the defending player that instigates the holding, the attacking player will be trying to break free.

And sending of Kamara when about half a dozen players had done as much or worse.

Kamara getting sent off was Kamara's fault, not the ref's.

Well yeah, but others still got off lightly if that was the threshold.

The cost of our midfield it could be the most ‘bang for the buck’ ever!

I think Kante, Mahrez, Drinkwater and Albrighton cost about £7m for the four of them.

And sending of Kamara when about half a dozen players had done as much or worse.

Kamara getting sent off was Kamara's fault, not the ref's.

Yeh, even if he was provoked, you can’t do that. Rush of blood to the head for a player that doesn’t have that reputation. Live and learn as they say. All our players need to do better because it will only get hotter as the spotlight shines on us. We need to keep our calm on and off the pitch.

We haven’t had I’d guess too many major transgressions of the Emery code. Losing our heads in the last home loss against Arsenal proved to be quite the vaccination, Emery was clear and public about what he won’t accept. We learned from it.

He was relatively outspoken about talking to Dibu post World Cup, though maybe that was saying enough to placate whoever.

He spoke well yesterday - like many I also like the responsibility not blame culture - it can only give confidence he’ll use this well for learning.

I know were going to miss Kamara but I honestly think the end of the game is one of those that's only going to galvanise us in the long run.

Yep. I think learning to keep our heads, to be serious about our goals requires serious growth and effort.

It’ll be heartbreaking if we lose out on something due to points dropped in the next three. I’m not sure we will, but it would be.

Likewise presumably we can recover from brief blips and taken as a football team building exercise, the last three very different wins must be pretty significant.

If the battle of Brentford was a bit of seasoning in the recipe so be it.

Time will tell.

Love how Unai called our players out on their behaviour.  The guy oozes class and dignity compared to the other gobshites at the top.  Anyone notice how much more petulant Pep is getting in interviews these days.

Emery's already made it absolutely clear that he's going to tell them to keep calmer.

Frank as well, somehow defending Ben Mee, when Kamara's red was way softer but Unai, who knows the rules, doesn't even bring it up. Klopp, Pep, Arteta, they're all saltier than the Dead Sea.

We've been avoiding suspensions pretty well for a fair few weeks with quite a few players being close to a match ban and we have managed this very well. We've also played a lot of matches, with many being very high profile and I would imagine emotions have been running high. It all spilled out yesterday and I'm sure Emery will calm everything down.

That's a really good point you have made purpletrousers, we probably last had a moment of madness against Arsenal, which goes all the way back to that match.

Strong point well made
Quote
“It turns out that Claudio Ranieri's side cost just under eight times as much as Manuel Pellegrini's -- and three times less than Spurs! Here are the numbers:

Marc Albrighton - Free
Danny Drinkwater - £1m
N'Golo Kante - £5.6m
Riyad Mahrez - £400,000

LEICESTER TOTAL: £54.4m

TOTTENHAM TOTAL: £161.1m

ARSENAL TOTAL: £251.9m

MANCHESTER CITY TOTAL: £418.8m

Be nice to see a Villa fan lick up a title medal in his own colours, rather than recent shades of Blue…

He’s also shrewd enough to understand that our players are going through something emotionally that they’ve not gone through before. The closest ironically will be Emi Martinez at the WC and going on to win it. That would have been very tense. I am sure Emery will address is it and it won’t be an issue again. Things got a little out of hand, in large part down to who we were playing and some of the fucking shit stirring scrotums they had in their team, especially Maupay.
