Alfie Hewett is extremely successful in his sport (wheelchair tennis) and has one tonnes of titles including 5 grand slams this year (3 singles, 2 doubles). If we're talking about pure, top-of-your-game achievements then he should win.

KJT has been one of our top athletes for years and won the Worlds after a long period out.

Really it should come from those two based on merit, I always think individual sports folk shouldn't have to work quite as hard to win it as team players.

I suspect it will be Earps to cement the rise of women's football though. Or maybe Broad (it would be hard to begrudge him).

KJT had a genuinely amazing world champs after the injury problems she had. Maybe not her best performance in pure numbers but it took a lot to even be there and the sheer will to be competitive was immense. She's my winner by a very long way this year.

Risso, I'd be amazed if you don't recognise her if you google her, she was advertising everything for a few years.

Nope, not a scooby sorry.

No, same here.

Admittedly, outside of the Villa (and the 49ers), I have very little interest in / knowledge of sport.

Just getting to a final isn't much to write home about though, surely? I don't remember Jordan Pickford being up for it.

😂

Less of a surprise for someone the other side of the world though.

Either way she deserves this and I'll be amazed if she doesn't win.

When I heard the nominees were being announced I thought of McGinn straight away. Obviously knowing he wouldn't be. Maybe if Scotland win the Euros (stop sniggering)

That's fair enough, mate.

She seems like a star!

I don't watch TV really, and haven't see an advert for years. The only time I watch athletics is when the Olympics are on.

I've never understood why people watch adverts on TV.

I know that everything I watch (apart from some sport) is recorded or on some kind of catchup, but why not change channels when adverts come on or do something else for a few minutes ?

My dad used to do that and used to watch two different things at the same time if the adverts were not synced as he wasn't fussed on missing minutes either way. Used to infuriate the rest of us though.

I zone out during ads without realising. My wife will say something to me about an ad while it's on and without fail I'll be in a Homer Simpson Land of Chocolate dream world. It's a blessing of a talent to have.

People not knowing who Katarina Johnson-Thompson is shows how far athletics has fallen out of the spotlight. She's the successor to Jessica Ennis, has two worlds and two Commonwealth golds, including in Birmingham.

I don't watch ads but I can't be arsed to turn over either, especially if I'm watching sport. Cricket is the big one that catches me out. Everytime there's a test series I end up learning a whole new set of adverts by osmosis as I'm messing on my phone waiting for the game to come back.

Surely Villa must win team of the year.

Next year after we've won the treble.

England will probably win it for getting to the semi-finals of the Euros.
