If it was 20 years ago soft twats like Martinelli, Saka and Jesus would be man handled out of the game. They are lucky they are protected to dance on ice by the ref's for Tv viewers around the world. They definitely won't win the title, man baby will get them too emotional to hold it together, like last year.

There's something oddly satisfying winning an ugly game playing ugly. Just pure grit second half and a big impact off the bench. Some fairly old school tackles and I thought Arsenal's forwards didn't fancy it as a result. Centre backs were excellent, Digne very good on Saka and McGinn a warrior. Rode our luck for sure a few times but we will take it.
Martinez 6 - very mixed second half, should have sent Cash & Havertz into ER when that last ball went in. Think he gets a bit ratty against Arsenal.
Konsa 4 - started ok but couldn't cope with Martinelli due to fatigue
Carlos 8 - I was ending his PL career after Bournemouth...solid out tonight
Torres 8 - very impressive with and without ball
Digne 8 - dealt with Saka really well, some turnaround this season
Kamara 4 - similar to Konsa really, barely got a kick second half until getting hooked
Luiz 6 - very quiet first half with Odegaard stuck to him. Improved a lot in second but that was an idiotic yellow for a suspension
Bailey 6 - cracking assist but didn't return from break
Tielemans 4 - couldn't get into the game at all and no surprise when he was hooked early
Watkins 5 - tried hard but very little change from Arsenal CBs

Cash, Moreno and Diaby were all very lively. Looking forward to seeing Moreno starting v Brentford. Excellent pass from Diaby to Watkins for a decent chance. Donk got stuck in but passing a big struggle...Ramsey a bit meh again but finished ok

For a while now, we have been described as a physical team by opponents and pundits, but I don't really see it, apart from a few rash tackles from Matty Cash.

I have never seen so much shirt pulling from any team than Arsenal did today. I suppose that's not physical as there is no body contact.

I agree, I think we looked far less 'physical' than Arsenal today, so not sure what some people are watching.

One thing that went unmentioned was that during the scramble for their disallowed goal, Cash was subject to a couple of kicks to the body that were at least on a par with Dougie's kick on whoever it was that they wanted a penalty for.

But things like that generally bother me. When SJM put his chance wide on Wednesday, during the slow-mo I was practically shouting "that Man City bloke is groping his packet!" That kind of thing would put me off.

During school football, there was one opponent who always used to pinch. At corners or when generally competing for the ball, he'd just reach out and pinch you wherever he could. I was once sent off because he was backing into me and pinched me very, very close to my testicles, so I grabbed his wrist and wouldn't let it go for maybe 10 seconds.* Straight red for that.

I hate those kind of players, and it seems like it's coached into some of them in the PL.

*I kind of got my own back the next year when we both went to head a ball from a corner, clashed heads and he broke his eye socket. Happy days.

That's weird. When SJM pu that chance wideon Wednesday, somebody shouted out, "he's got him by the balls!". The dog wasn't best pleased; he ran into the room and emitted a low growl until everyone had calmed down.

Have you noticed the amount of chest poking that goes on nowadays? I'm talking straight handed shot arm jabs. Usually during corners and free kicks.

Finally, I don't think our new tactic of piling everybody on the goal line when we have a corner will enamour us to referees.

From my part of the world this was the worst kick off time (1.30 am) but once again it was worth it.
I wasn't able to get back to sleep after the game finished so starting to feel a bit wrecked as it's midday now.
I'm not even thinking of CL football for next season as you play football to win things.
We are definitely in a title race.
This week has shown that SUE knows how to approach each game differently depending on the opponent and circumstances to get the right result.
It's what top teams do.
An interesting stat is that when we just stayed up in 2019/20 we had only 35 points.
This season we have 35 points from only 16 games!
What a time to be a Villa fan.

But then again I wouldn’t trade a week like this for a whole season of normal kickoff times!
This one was more gritty than pretty, but no surprise a bit of tiredness there after that monumental midweek effort. Special kudos to every single one of you lucky enough to be in the ground – that wall of noise shook through the speakers down here in the colonies, and you could feel it willing and dragging our lads over the line.
Mrs Antipode generally refuses to watch, but she could tell it was special - didn’t even argue when i proposed an impromptu champagne breakfast at 8.30🥳🥂

All reference to a big six has been flushed down the toilet and the scripted narrative these pundits and commentators spout when asked if Villa are title contenders and reply with a non answer means they look like twats.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if it were spuds or bar codes in our position the wankfest would be immeasurable.

I can only give every player a solid 10 for both matches - everyone played their part.

I’m going to VP for a Christmas shop, might volunteer to mop the away end with the tears they must have dropped.

Arguably not at our best but I trust these players.  When Unai makes a sub, be it at half-time or on 52 minutes like yesterday, I don't question it, such is the trust and faith in this manager and squad.   Everyone of them does their bit, Duran seems to have buried the hatchet too and does a fair job when he comes on.  Dendonker struggled a bit, and we need an upgrade as a replacement for Kamara, when he's subbed, but what a great squad.  Brilliant.

You could tell Arteta instructs them to dive. It was noticeable first half how much Saka managed to cope with gravity. Only Jesus fell over with any frequency. The 2nd half, crikey. What a bunch of petulant, soft, diving wankers.

The goal was outstanding though. Patient passes until the press was breached and then bang; pace, power, tearing them open.

Felt we gave the ball away too easily and without pressure. Konsa struggled for me defensively and I'd have had Cash on at half time. Got lucky with Odegaard's miss, but they uff and puff Arsenal. Fuck em'.
