I wasn't expecting that after 10 minutes to be honest. An inspired pair of subs which not many managers at 1-1 away from home at half time would have had the imagination to have  done. Our best win of  the season for me.

Stevie Wonder, or maybe even Dean Smith, would have been able to see that those changes were needed at half time. Credit to Emery for making the changes but he was only correcting his tactical and selection errors in the first place. There was no reason to start Carlos today

Given we were under the cosh for that first twenty or so, it's a good job we had that extra defender in. Like i said, some. manager's would have gone in satisfied because we'd pulled it back just before half time. He threw them making the double change.

We really need an upgrade on Cash , and Diaby needs to have a good look at himself he simply isn't doing it lately
Not every player can DO IT every week. He's important part of out set up, and other teams a worried sick of him.

We need competition for Cash for sure. Today wasn't all his fault mind he didn't know where to position himself when in or out of possession.

Diary has done loads so far, but every no 10 can blow hot and cold.

Lucky to still be in it after 30 minutes with another really slow start.
Great second half after scoring at a great time just before the interval, Torres really should have scored the other headed chance.
Cash could have got a red on another day for that ‘tackle’ on Bantancur.
Great result. UTV

Now into 4th
Where's the Champions League ?  and
Going for the  Title dream thread ?
Is it after we beat Man City and Arsenal those can be created ?
Or after the boxing day win at Old Trafford
If there isn't one by start of 2024 then I may have to start one myself!
Ain't no stopping us!
Up the Villa!

Important game. This game to me was the “are we flat track bullies” game.

No

I like Cash, he’s is a very decent right back. We need some cover there for sure.

Beauty! That game was always one we would win.

I normally love Villa games that I know we're going to win, but it was actually rather disappointing at times for some of the game. Though I loved how flummoxed yet another team were by the offside deployed by Emery and his strategy. Amazing!
But really Spurs were there for the taking and would have won easily if attacked harder in first half and applied pressure and ruthless in second half. Likes of Bailey needed to be in from the outset because having more offense from the start I think be looking at a 4 or 5 goals.

At the end of the day Villa win and there was a superior difference with our players and our ability to play a high line defence and  a nod to our world class keeper.

I loved how flummoxed another team were by the offside deployed by Emery and his strategy. Amazing!

Watkins scored delightfully. Tielemans too had made a difference as Diaby was proving ineffective.
Ollie could have had two or three today. Unlucky. A header that was just wide of the goal from a corner and one that was disallowed by VAR.

And it's great to see Ramsey and Duran for some match action fot a few minutes and part of the victory.

Well we made hard work of those 3 points. Spurs are the most over hyped team in the league. They've sold their best player, their manager isn't elite level and has had a prolonged honeymoon period, take away all the hype they get and they're on West Hams level. I expected us to win but Emery did get it wrong with the first half set up,  you could see after 10mins the balance wasn't right suprised it took till half time for him to change it, credit to him he sorted it out, however it could of been a more comfortable afternoon.
The timing of the equaliser right on half time was crucial. Torres had missed an identical chance early on and made no mistake 2nd time round and Watkins was ruthless with his strike. Great to look at the table and see Villa top four after all these years.

Need an upgrade on him on my observation.
After we removed Cash from the picture, the game changed. The manner he was playing seemed clueless and  it was a pathetic yellow card for a foolish challenge.
Cash didn't have the football intelligence to play the role required and that was an issue addressed at half time.

Hindsight is 20-20 (and we won), but it may have been better to start the usual back four with McGinn on the right and Tielemans on the left ahead of Dougie and Bouba. Our wingbacks were far too deep and allowed Spurs fullbacks to push on.

Maybe you should have a good word with yourself. He’s young, it’s his first season, he’s played mostly well, sometimes brilliantly, other times it’s not happened.

Quite - players aren’t robots. We’ve seen how good he can be. He’s just going through a dip.

I continue to be astounded and delighted by the quality of Unai's work.
1. We win away
2. We come from behind.
3. We beat one of the Sky six when, despite the injuries, they were really up for it.

Also very impressed with how Tielemans is being integrated into the squad. Enjoy your Sunday night, Villains!

Very impressed with Tielemans, he was on it as soon he came on, composed and clever, he sure can time a pass.
