Unless we're planning on getting rid of Digne in January, I don't see any problem with leaving him as first choice and allowing Moreno time to ease back in and eventually win his place back.

Competition for places is bollocks. Everybody knows who's best.

Common sense tonight I see, Digne starts . Moreno can play in the conference on Thursday .
Digne has been superb these last couple of months , his crossing is exquisite.

I would say that it's currently Dignes place to lose.

And I say that as someone who wanted Digne gone in the summer.

I don't think he is the long term option, because he lacks the pace that Emery seems to want in the position, but his play so far this season has been decent, so to just dump him out the team wouldn't be right.

In my humble opinion...

Moreno will be rusty anyway , to throw him straight in at Spurs Away isn't practical unless you're at home playing FIFA. Emery is a sensible experienced manager fortunately.

As soon as Moreno loses the rust, unleash the hound.

I didn't at any point say he'd play on Sunday, I was contesting the assumption that Digne had made the shirt his own and Moreno would sit on the sidelines waiting to get back on the team.

But I guess that was too nuanced for some. Lastfootstamper gets it.

I still think Digne will want to go back to France. Moreno will become starter and we will be someone to compete with him. But right now Digne has done everything asked and should keep his place. Moreno after a long stretch out will need to build up his fitness and sharpness. Digne for this game, Moreno for the Europa game in the week.

I don't think at all we should be dumping Digne, because in this age of 5 subs (a number that's only ever likely to increase rather than decrease) I like the idea of having certain players in certain positions that you can run into the ground for an hour in every game, let them do their damage, and then replace them with another high quality player that presents the opposition with a fresh, different problem. Fullback being the most obvious. I hope come the first of February we'll have the strength to do the same at right-back.

No, bollocks to that, if we're a better team with Moreno playing then play him.
Above is your response to us saying Digne holds his place v Spurs.
No way is moreno ready and no way does Digne deserve dropping.

He didn’t mention Sunday, and he’s right in the performances of last season Moreno is much better and makes the team better. Emery has adapted to losing three or four of his better players as he does.
Thats different to saying someone whose has a really bad injury and hasn’t had any minutes on the pitch for six months, should go straight back in.
