Soppy old sod that i am, that was just lovely, but, and no way am i taking any issue to the fine words you have written, but it seems a little sad that sometimes mere words don't do the subject matter justice, you know, you had to live it, thank you.

Nice article, and I'd like to add mention of two specific highlights of Charlie's contribution in that great 1974/75 season that saw us win the League Cup and gain promotion back to the First Division. The first is the headed goal he scored in the 2-0 win at Villa Park v Man Utd, which I think took place the Saturday before the League Cup Final. The second achievement to note, at the end of that season, was Charlie being named the Birmingham Evening Mail West Midlands player of the season - in those days, this was a highly prestigious award and, in season of such success for the Villa, a great testament to his worth and the respect in which he was held.
