During the course of 90 minutes, memories are made – 25-yard screamers, dodgy penalties, crunching tackles, great saves and howlers.

During the course of 90 minutes, 30 people in the UK will develop dementia.

Over 944,000 people in the UK are affected by dementia, and many families are left feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and alone. We believe every family affected by this often devastating condition should have the support of a specialist dementia nurse – but right now, we can’t reach everyone who needs us.

We’re calling on football fans across the UK to sign up for Fans vs Dementia this season. When you join our squad and organise your own football-based walk or bike ride, you’ll help ensure no one has to face dementia alone.

If memory serves me correctly it was Jeff Astle's case that bought it to the forefront. In his and my time the leather footballs we played with were very heavy in the wet and like granite when the frost was around.  It is a very big issue in the AFL over here, tragic to see the damage it does.

No. Leastways not currently, and never directly.
 
My grandmother suffered dementia, and difficulty accessing care was a big strain on my mother. When some care was eventually accessed it was a big help.

I lost my mom this year and my Nan about 18 years ago to Alzheimer’s, it’s a horrible disease. This is a really great cause, thanks for sharing.

And my father in law, it is a horrible disease, memories go much of the way in making us who we are.

Yep, both of my mother's parents and my father's mom had dementia, and caring for/supporting them has taken a huge toll on her.

It didn't bring Alzheimer's and early onset dementia to the fore, just that ex-footballers from back in the day were more susceptible to it because of the old leather caisers used. (And even heading in general as kids are not allowed to head a ball below a certain age in matches.)

The OP Link is just an extra option for raising general support with football supporters with challenge options. Similar to the memory walk at Sutton Park I mentioned today.
