They need a good relegation. I suspect with a progressive managerial appointment they would then come back up.

Nobody needs a good relegation, especially not them. They're struggling to pay for their stadium as it is, a year or however long on reduced income isn't going to help with that. As every relegated team finds out, their better players would be sold and have to be replaced on the cheap. Relegation is never, ever a good idea.

I can kind of see what he means though. For example, would Sir Graham have come if we were in the same division as Watford? I reckoned he fancied the challenge of getting us back up.

Different times though, back then you could get relegated because of a couple of injuries to key players but it wouldn't mean you'd have to decimate your side and start again.

In this case, as Risso points out, they've got so much to fork out for still that relegation could finish them. The stadium funding is still not in place to finish it (you usually have these things in place before you start building) and they're on the hook for about £300m to put the site back as it was if they can't.

This is without having a bogging squad and a shit manager.

More sob on the Tyne. The tie of the round due to someone not knowing their abc’s. Have a closer look.
Perhaps they went in order of how they pronounce the names; Naaaaarwich & Nuuuuuuuuucastle.

They won’t go down. How can there possibly be a big city with one top PL club and a second division club with shit colours and a building site for a stadium.

Yes but they're at a massive disadvantage as they don't 'carry the name of the city', the essential element of any civic of footballing success.

If you'd asked me beforehand what would be the most boring draw imaginable for Villa IMV then H to Everton would probably have been it

But do they drink in town though?

The financial disparity now between the Premier League and the Championship, compared to Division 1 and 2 of the same league 30 odd years ago, is like night and day.

I think relegation for any "established" premier league club could easily spell genuine disaster.  For every club like us that manages to get back relatively quickly, and re-establish itself in the top flight, there is a Sheffield Wednesday, or a Leeds, who spend a decade or more in the wilderness, and then struggle to re-establish themselves if they're ever fortunate enough to get a shot at being back.

We avoided catastrophe very narrowly, I didn't realise how close we were at the time. Missing out on promotion to the premier league should be the worst thing that could happen to a club like we were in 2018, but honestly, us losing the play-off final to Fulham has subsequently turned out to be the best thing to happen to this club in 20 years - and it keeps getting better.  So who knows, a relegation might prove good for Everton in the long run, but I very much doubt it.

I wouldn't wish a relegation on my worst enemy (well, except about half a dozen clubs I really dislike, Everton not being one of them)

1977 and all that
Villa - Everton is one of four previous finals drawn out already in this season’s competition.
Tranmere v Leicester and Bolton v Middlesbrough both went the way of same team that won the finals so we could be in for a long night!
Newcastle v Man City is the fourth.

A lot of football to be played between now and the actual game. They could have an upturn in form, we could do the opposite.
Nice to have a home draw against an opponent we have beaten already this season, we will be favourites to go through.
But take nothing for granted, should be a good atmosphere

They don't seem that confident on GOT :

"This Villa tie will fall between our games v West Ham (A) and Brighton (H).

Villa have Luton (H) then Forest (A).

We're as good as out."

They're wrong about the dates there. We have Chelsea and Brighton either side. They have Brentford and Luton. Probably still correct with their prediction though.

Yes, realised they'd made a mistake so I deleted the post. Even their forum is a shambles atm.

The Fulham home, Bournemouth away and Brentford away games will obviously get moved as well.
