Scotland is within the UK so hardly antagonistic, perhaps they wanted our friends in the highlands to join in? A natural sense of comradery if you will  ;D

All together now: God Save our gra.... :-*

Kamara and Luiz could keep the ball of someone in a phone box, and along with McGinn are also absolute units.

Texting my mate during the game, he lives in Northants and also follows the Cobblers.  We were debating whether Hibs were as good as the Cobblers or about the same standard.   When the commentators stated that they have a 'massive game' this weekend against Livingstone, you begin to realise just how low quality their Premier Division is.  Makes me realise what a really bad appointment Gerrard was. You can only beat what is put in front of you and that was a demolition.  We didn't need to get out of first gear.

It was 1986 or something the last time someone other than Celtic or Rangers won the SPL. You've basically got to think about the Old Firm games and  that's about it. Be interesting to see how Ange gets on at Spurs now, to see just how bad Gerrard was.

Rodgers, in the main, did very well at Leicester too with an FA Cup, 2 x 5th? placed finishes (or bottled CL spots depending on what way you look at it). Jacked it in as soon as they stopped spending money. Ange already looks a good addition at Spurs, at least then have a semblance of shape about them these days. Gerrard, bar his name (and maybe Beale as coach) had nothing about him as a manager. Newcastle nearly went for him until Purslow's disastrous decision. We were spectacularly mugged off.

That was really nice work from Traore to win the peno. Granted you could never really rely on a player that lazy but he could have his uses this season for us.

Rodgers is a good manager - he did well at Leicester, Liverpool, Swansea and celtic.  He's not without flaws - but Villa is one of the hardest jobs in football (like newcastle and everton).

Absolutely, he’s the one player we have who can do that. I’d keep him as he’s immensely entertaining.

We didn’t get out of 2nd gear again, didn’t need to either. Even so, we can still be sloppy and careless, something we need to cut out.  Diaby, wasn’t his best and Watkins should have 4 pr 5 to his name.

Traore is is one of those where you never know if he'll be a waste of a shirt or give you some "shit, did you see that" moments. Sometimes both in the same game. It's frustrating, not ideal if you're aiming for the top end, but it also adds something for me.

I know what you mean about Traore, tonight was the perfect example of when you bring him on, and tell him to do something batshit.

I thought Diaby did well to be honest, it was a really controlled performance all round, we realised we just needed a pre-season type of performance and that'd do, so we delivered it.

Can't gauge much from tonight given how poor the opposition was. Burnley away will be a good test. Diaby was average I thought , Torres  rusty at times and not the fastest which is a concern.
Positives was Watkins goals and confidence boost , Digne was superb and I thought Diego had a strong game. Kamara seems a bit intermittent, Luiz very good.

He's not lazy. If he looks like he's doing nothing at any given time, I can assure you that couldn't be further from the truth. He's thinking. Thinking.

It was only Hibs.

But then, it was only Varteks. And only Rapid Vienna. And only Trabzonspor. And only...
Helsingborgs, September 1996, is the one I recall most vividly. They had eleven men behind the ball at Villa Park, drew 1-1, then went through on away goals after holding us to a 0-0 draw in the second leg.

I got the feeling that Diaby felt frustrated at not getting in on the scoring or being involved enough in the final third. McGinn was also quiet for long periods. I wonder if he felt sheepish about being in possession after all the booing when he got the ball in the early stages. Even if half in jest, that must have hurt him a little.

Kamara and Luiz were like two Rolls Royce(s). How they controlled the game was a joy to watch.

I’d be tempted to upgrade that to ‘scheming’.

Digne was superb tonight. We're gonna need a full squad firing this season so give the subs and youth a shot in the second leg. There'll be sterner tests to come but a statement was made in Europe tonight.
