Is this the first time for years we don't really have any shite players in the squad?

Carlos looked useful when he came on too, which was encouraging. Wouldn't surprise me if we end the season with Torres and Carlos as first choice partnership and Konsa as first choice right back.
Agreed - I thought Carlos looked excellent, and both he and Torres will get better by the game.
I'm also a big fan of Tielemans and think he will fight he way into some of the starting line-ups.
I noticed how much Bailey looked for Diaby when looking for a pass ... particularly in the first half it seemed like they were the only two playing. Bailey certainly did seem freer and more adventurous in his play.

Just catching-up but what the hell is "bounty-gate" (see Page 3 of thread, Page 1 if Legion)?

The last time I went to Goodison was to see us beaten by the exact same scoreline. We were similarly bad. It is a sobering thought how the wheel turns.
As a post note-I was with the Everton fans that day (my Son-In-Law is a Toffee) and they were almost apologetic and didn't totally enjoy seeing Villa so low. A bit like me yesterday.

To win by 4 while in 2nd gear all match is impressive.  Can Everton play any worse than that?  They offered nothing and didn't appear to be too bothered about offering nothing.  We learned very little in the 100 + minutes apart from Watkins needing to work hard on his first touch and also his 2nd touch.  Not a great game by him.  Everyone else good with McGinn the pick of the bunch. Carlos is a bit of a beast, not many will mess with him.

What can I say - pretty worried after last week's collapse

We were off the pace v Newcastle (who are a Top 4 side) and got hammered. We were in 3rd gear at most v a team who are bottom 6 and thrashed them. Let's face it we played at half pace after 2nd goal until half time and even 3rd and 4th were weren't busting a gut.

I have been critical of Bailey but thought he did really well yesterday and the first goal set up was excellent so hopefully he can by-line more often. He took his goal well too. Diaby and Pau looked very good too. SJM was superb and it may not be popular but Watkins movement is generally very good and creates space for others (accept he misses chances he shouldn't).

I'd still like to see another RB option.

A very good response to a bad day at the office - now let's see us give Hibs a good tonking so we can have a sell out for a practice match next week,

New Orleans Saints were allegedly offering bonuses to injure specific players off other teams, so a bit like putting a bounty on an opposition player.

I  actually thought he didnt hit it well , which kinda worked as it went through Thugfords legs as probably expecting a hard shot to the side of him.  He was greatly proved yesterday and I think playing with Diaby really helped him . so another great reason for buying the french man .  I do hope Leon comes good.

Yes Rob the gap between top and bottom half will be as massive as it was last season I think.

The thing with Bailey for me is even though he had a great game yesterday his key moments were at the whim of chance. He didn't really control the ball that well before his cross to McGinn, his header before the pen seemed a bit aimless, and his goal was a fairly weak shot straight at the keeper. He's never going to be reliable.

I did chuckle at Pickford being taunted with 'you're just a sh*t Robin Olsen' yesterday.

Quote from Andy Hinchcliffe during the game 'Diego Carlos looks like a wardrobe dressed in a Villa shirt'.  He was being kind, not ridiculing.  Diego was very good yesterday, whilst not massively tested.

The reality is that there are 8 or 9 teams that are decent in this league, there are 11 or 12 who are going to struggle against that upper tier. Everton are in the latter group, we are in the former, and it showed. Having said that you have to beat what is in front of you.

I didn't get why Everton started DCL after a short run out behind closed doors. I would have thought Dyche would want to target the dogheads and Sheff Utd for points rather than us, the risk of playing DCL from the start was an odd one. But there you go.

Torres could not have hoped for a nicer full debut. He was allowed time on the ball, could pick whatever pass he wanted and was under no real pressure defensively. There was one pass he played in the second half along the ground through the centre of midfield which was delicious. Dougie and Kamara were brilliant, and SJM had clearly recovered from the issues that dogged him against the Saudis. I was trying to work out how many positions he played in yesterday. It didn't really matter he did well in every single one.

Watkins was Watkins, earned the penalty because of his tenaciousness, but hit the ball the wrong side of the post the two or three chances he got, and on occasion the ball not getting played perfectly into his stride or him mis-controlling it. The Diaby volley goes in against most other keepers.

I think I am with our skipper, we left a few goals out there yesterday, fancy saying that after we won 4-0.
