I dunno, Gaz Baz always had that graceful/lazy style, rarely ruffled, never phased. We hadn't really seen it since God or Sid.

Gregory's tactics and approach to transfers were never progressive and usually insular.

I'm half remembering Gareth Barry playing left back and being our most creative player maybe Torres can be similar

Completely different types of player. Barry got into the first team aged 17, and showed his versatility from the word go.

Surely we're not letting Digne go at this point? That's madness if true. No recognised LB with Moreno out.

Acuna deal should be done today

Sounds like we're still apart on the fee unless there's been an update?

Premier league deadline is midday on a Friday so I think it's more realistic we tie up Acuna deal next week although not sure if he'll be eligible for Hibs game.

It's a strange one with the FBs.

We knew from late May that Moreno wouldn't be around for start of the season (hopefully he's only 2-3 weeks off) and released Young so everyone assume a versatile FB would be signed at some point in July but hasn't happened and now very tempting interest in Digne from Saudi.

While he's still here Digne needs to continue starting games just for the balance and give Pau time to get used to premier league from CB as we need him to develop into the presence Mings was for us so rather do that than LB.

Everton won't be able to hurt us like Newcastle but they're still a team who can create on counter attack so it's a bit concerning to me we ended last season with a fantastic defensive structure and now it's looking a bit scratch and ragged so early on.

Agree HQ, Everton will start with a better RB than us. This is going to be a very difficult game because, as you say, our defence looks a bit ragged.

I keep thinking back to the start of the 77- 78 season ( my first as a junior season ticket holder on the Holte end) when after a brilliant season the season before - we got off to a slow start in the league - losing a few at home early on - including 4-1 to City and if memory serves me correctly losing to Everton???

 1 - 1 on Sunday

Did he play much in America or v Lazio or Valencia?

Everytime I watched it was Pau there or Digne coming on.

Think we will be fine on Sunday, we have had a full week of training for Unai and co to get the defence sorted and what we have seen so far he will have done that.  It might not be the defence come the Liverpool game early September but he will have planned for this game post Mings injury.

He came on a couple of times in America. He looked OK.
