Since Monchi left we’ve played 10 matches and won 8 of them. Coincidence?
Quote from: eamonn on October 23, 2025, 11:35:56 PMDiaby was sold for what we paid, wasn't he, give or take? And Enzo may yet go on to be a £50m+ player of which we'll see little of. Granted, that's more on Unai than Monchi.I mean, he might do ... but at 24 years old, he's leaving it a bit late. We've got €15m for him that we don't have to get from selling another actual first team player, I suspect we've made the right call there. We've let him go maybe a bit cheaper than we should, but I'd rather that than the alternative.

Given the trajectory of the players since the transfer, we've probably done okay on the Luiz deal. Amazing considering how good Luiz had been for us.

Amazing considering how good Luiz had been for us.I think the thing that will ultimately decide how the DL sale is seen in a few years is what Onana does with his Villa career. While they do different jobs, he's effectively taken his spot in the squad. If he goes on to play 200-300 matches or develops into someone clearly better than DL and goes to Bayern for £130m, then I think it will be seen as us upgrading to a better player for similar money. If he ends up playing another 30 matches and we sell him in a couple of years to Rennes for £10m then the sale of DL will look like it was bad business.
We've sold well:DuranLuizDiaby - not sure here but hasn't signed for real madrid or owt.Ramsey has been most injured tooThe only boat we definitely missed was Bailey.
I think it is fair to say Monchi had lost his midas touch. More worrying was the admin errors with Malen last summer, and potentially Elliot this year, suggesting he wasn't as in synch as he should be.However...Emery is running at a transfer surplus since he joined - and Monchi was there for most of it - so he deserves credit too.
