‘ABC de Sevilla has spoken with the sporting director’s entourage, who confirmed his departure, claiming that his career has come to an end and that he now intends to rest and focus on his project in his homeland. Monchi founded CD San Fernando 1940 with his son Alejandro, Sergio, and René Ramos, taking over from the now-defunct San Fernando CD

Looking back, the writing was on the wall when he seemed to preoccupied by this Spanish club during a pivotal transfer window,

They also said we were in for Rashford but that didn't happen either. Rashford must think Barcelona was a better option than us for some reason.

He hadn't heard of Highters Heath before he made his decision.

Had one look at Maypole island and that stupid pedestrian crossing across from Sainsburys and thought ‘fuck that’. Can’t blame him.

Looking more and more likely to be Olabe it seems.

Hopefully something comes out today if true. Would be nice to think this hasn't all been entirely reactionary.

Yep, if it is him it does look like it will have been in the pipeline rather than it all being a big drama.

I chuckle at the thought of us trying to implement a Bournemouth/Brighton model and selling our star players every summer. I guess it'd be good for H&V traffic, but the amount of shit lost might be a danger to global shipping.

Strong vibes re Olabe (who has the 'benefit' of being a Basque abd who knows Iraola from his managerial career in Spain - succession planning?) but here's someone else who is available.

Ex Baggies
Ex England
Ex Newcastle United
Ex Man United (albeit very briefly)

Step forward

Dan Ashworth.

Hides behind soda.

I don't dislike it at all if it is him. He's done bloody well with RS considering how tight their budgets been.

David Ornstein running with Olabe now. He sounds like a big upgrade if it happens.

Aston Villa reach agreement to appoint Roberto Olabe as new president of football operations. 57yo Spaniard available after Real Sociedad exit - regarded among best sporting directors + will be viewed by many as significant coup for #AVFC
@TheAthleticFC

Olabe was on Villa’s radar before they hired Monchi and has also been considered by clubs like Arsenal and Real Madrid.
