We can’t make people play for us. He wants to move on, and that’s that.

Yes that’s true.  Not criticising the club, or player really.  More the fact we’re selling because we have to.  Maybe it’s the right time, he’s getting older. But I’d be happier if it wasn’t happening.

See Aston Villa 1977-1980...
I bet the forums were in meltdown when we lost Gray and Little within a year of each other.
Oh we were in pure cold rage. My post one day summed up my anger:

Yes I know a bit strong but it was needed.

I dunno, I just have this gut feeling that we’re selling Tielemans at the right time. I think he’ll do okay at Man Utd, but I also think that he probably won’t shine like he has for us.

I think Emery adds 10% to all our players.  Take the player out of the current tactics and environment and they could struggle.  Rogers is the prime example of a player given way more rope at Villa than he’d get elsewhere.

My prediction is Man U will play Youri as a 6 and he will get completely over-run in the centre.  Alternatively they play the untested Santos alongside him.  Neither scenario looks good for him.

The terraces were calling for Ron to be sacked as he ripped apart his late 70s team prior to building his early 80s side. He remains an object lesson in giving managers time...

I was thinking that, they'll want him deeper and it doesn't suit him as much.

Thanks Uri for some great memories and "that" goal.

But...signing for them will mean you are instantly dead to me and I am sure countless others.

When you hear the likes of King of the ******, Goldstein, discuss you as a squad player you should worry that they are the kind of morons you may be playing in front of.
Enjoy the money and maybe a trophy hear or there but you will be roundly booed when next at VP and justifiably so.

You are now a red piece of shit.

I'll remember him fondly and I won't be booing him. I'm not worried about how he does, unless they finish narrowly above us.

All I care about is getting the recruitment right. Tielemans now joins the long list of irreplaceable players, including every single player we've ever had pre-2018, who in fact were replaceable, and we've just won the Europa League despite the lot of them being sold/retiring/whatever.

Have a feeling we're gonna kill it this summer. I'm pretty excited about it.

I don’t remember it like that. I remember when there were rumours of him going to Saudi on the back of the Mail, and at the next match there was a tremendous show of support for him from the Holte, where I was. Later on it was suggested that Ron manufactured the situation to show Ellis who was the fans’ darling. If that was true, it worked a treat.

Can’t have been Ellis who was the chairman of the Villa for two separate spells: first from 1968 to 1975 and again from 1982 until 2006.

I do remember Saunders threatening to resign if Ellis won a shareholders vote challenging to be Chair which he subsequently lost!
