Terrible first half, marginally better second half, but overall extremely disappointing, other than the bit of the scramble towards the end we never really looked like extending our scoring run. I guess we had to lose a game eventually I'm just pissed off it's to these fuckers, but at least we weren't cheated out of it. I think we're fighting with Spurs for 7th/8th now.

Thanks, saves mw typing loads. Other than to add Casemiro was probably the best player on the pitch and arguably shouldn't even have been on after 20 minutes.

No need to despair too much. It's been a great run.

Big game against Wolves next week tho. Can't be losing that one.

How likely is it that we will have the injured boys back next weekend?  That might make the difference to how well we finish the season.

Emery keeps saying "very soon, but not this weekend" but none of them have even been pictured training and Kamara was still in a protective boot last week.

Hmm doesn't sound massively promising, but fingers crossed.

Disappointed but not too downhearted, pity the run had to end in front of what looked like a crowd full of tourists.

The thin squad and the injuries are always going to hamper us when taking on the better teams in the league and the former will be resolved in the Summer.

We gave them a game but came up just short. The future remains as bright as ever.

We've started to look like what we are: a side that's leapt from relegation fodder to European hopefuls in a matter of weeks.

My own opinion here, but I can't bring myself to be happy with 8th now. I'd be gutted.

If, after the Craven Cottage debacle anyone had suggested to me that with four games to go we would have a chance of qualifying for any European competition I should have thought they were bonkers. We have today lost to a team in the top four who, I think, have not been beaten in the league at home since the first game, when we have injuries to important players and we were still in it inside the final minute. .Okay this was not our best performance but we look pretty certain to achieve our highest position for years and can genuinely be optimistic for the future. Thank you Aston Villa.VTID.

They had adjusted their tactics to us I think. They did press us some first half without to much dangerous situations - but 1-0 at half time was about fair.  We slightly better than them  second half, Should have been an 1-1 like Brentford away. We are a good team. Was Rashford offside for their goal? VAR didnt show the whole story there at my screen anyway

That's it!  I have been trying to think what he reminds me of.  Well done sir.

Better second half and had a couple of opportunities at the end to get a draw.  Think games like this against better opposition highlight the areas we still need improvements in and the need for better options coming off the bench if we are to trouble the higher reaches of the league on a regular basis.

So was Fernandes!

The fact that we are unhappy at losing away to one of the best teams in the league is a mark of where we are now compared to where we were only a few months back. There were plenty of positives today and, on another day, at least one of those chances would have gone in.

I've only seen one half since the Newcastle game but from the sounds of things we have been pretty poor since then. So by my reckoning this is the 15,254th false dawn since I became a fan.

😂 It isn't that bad.
