Meh, I just think it's really unfair and superficial. Some of the smartest people I've met have spoken like he does, dats and finks and all, and some of the dumbest morons I've met sounded like Bertrand Russell. Anyway I'm all for regional dialects.
Yeh but it’s Rio compounding the theory that using finks instead of thinks means that you are a bit thick which he obviously is.

I cannot deny that Rio does the reputation of his accent no favours.

I'm with Monty, calling people thick because of how they sound is something that brumies in particular should be fighting against at any opportunity.

From personal experience (and my accent isn't that strong) I have a much easier time working with people from outside the UK when I have to tell them what to do, especially when they're management.

That said Rio is thick as shit and shouldn't be anywhere near TV sharing his opinions on anything.

Do you have to tell them what to do paul_e? Or is this another xG fiasco?

Where’s that come from??
I strong brummie accent and have over the years faced a bit of the old snobbery, especially as I work with many middle class professionals. Funny perceptions alter if they find out I have a PhD….the accent is embroiled with class snobbery in this country.

Well this thread is taking a turn down a dimly lit alleyway.
