Was there some trouble after the game?  I saw some idiot on Twitter boasting about how some toon fans at the train station would have to wash blood out of their shirts.

What is this shit?: 'We’ll have to get used to lesser teams treating us like their cup final.'

I mean the fucking irony in that, a team that hasn't won one in an entire lifetime.

Brought to you by fans of a club that last won a domestic trophy in 1955.

I find asking them if they are called the black and white army because any footage of them winning anything is in black and white often shuts them up.

I thought our reaction at the end of the game was as far from celebratory as you can get for beating one of the competitors for European spots. No team photo, no mass outpouring of joy in the stands, no over-the-top fist pumping. Just restrained congratulations around another step taken along the road to being competitive again.

I enjoyed asking my mates (including some Geordies) if they'd enjoyed the new MOTD on Saturday.

There's an earlier post on there about us being deluded because we've been mid-table plodders in the premier league era, whilst they've been in the 'champions league and challenged for titles' (not sure about the plural there).

They've been in as many title challenges as we have and have two less trophies to show for it.

1995/96. 1996/97 and maybe one under Bobby Robson?
2002/03. In the hunt, but ended emphatically with a 6-2 drubbing by Man Utd.

But if that last one counts then so does our 98/99 start under John Gregory.

In recent history we've both had the misfortune of Bruce in charge, but they've also had Benitez, Keegan, Robson, Allardyce, Souness, Dalglish, Gullit etc. Much higher profile than what we've had, and some with considerable more success elsewhere too. They've been media darlings for a lot of that time, and had some pretty big player personalities too. We've not so much. Yest we've at least won something.

We've probably lost more finals than they've ever been to.

Edit, I was curious so checked and not quite - we have lost about half as many finals as they have ever been to:

Newcastle total finals 15
Villa finals lost: 8

Since they last won something, we've won an FA Cup, 5 league cups, the League and the European Cup. I guess Villa always suffer from underrepresentation in the media considering what the club has done in the game. Add to that a rotten last thirty-odd (possibly longer) years and I suppose it's fair enough that we just don't exist in the minds of a lot of fans.

Mings and Watkins in Garth Crooks' team of the week. Which is a concern because 'dependable' De Gea was also, despite having precisely ZERO shots to save.

We've been in a total of 21 finals, winning 13. They've been in 15 winning 7. Not including the Inter-Toto for either side as for me that doesn't count as a proper cup competition, but including their Fairs cup.

Honestly Crooks is a relic and needs to be binned off to join Lawrenson and comfort him.

Longstaff was missing… Yeah that’s it lads.

Reminds of the time Xavi and Iniesta only bossed a champions league final, because Darren Fletcher was missing.
Kamara was missing for Villa, but we had to play Dendonker and he had no problems coping, even with a blindfold on

Please someone sign-up to their toxic forum and post all this  ;D
