Yeah I think other than the 7-2 it’s the best we’ve played since MON and we rarely played that well under him. Watkins best ever performance, possibly Ramsey’s, as good as I’ve ever seen from Mings and the best I’ve seen Moreno so far. Ashley Young is really late 30s…? Fucking brilliant
But Unai really is the man, to get players that had been playing the way they had under other managers to play like that is some level of coaching and management.

Fresh from apologising for a banner from 2009, Andy is composing a letter of apology for the bubble bursting we’ve just dished out.

We totally bossed that, it was fantastic!

Andy Townsend saying right at the end of that highlights video 'that does not flatter Aston Villa at all today'. Get in there.

Side note , who is patterson on the subs bench ?

Highly rated right back. Has been coveted by Spurs in the past and plays for one of the England youth sides.

That was the most complete and best performance from Villa in ages. Everyone played so well for the whole game, we were on the front foot, and importantly the level of fitness and energy showed through again.

Players that would have been flagging early on the season are all so much fitter.

I was thinking about us tiring towards the end, and then I thought, well, we haven’t really run around that much. As our dad used to say ‘we let the ball do the work’.

And I loved how we left 2 out when defending their first corner ... we should do that more.

I reckon that's the best we've played in about 15 years. The 7-2 against Liverpool is the only other game I can think of that comes close.

Exactly my thoughts - in fact, I can't remember which top flight game I was last at where we've played so comprehensively well. Every player played to their strengths, and I thought the MF 5 were awesome; Luiz particularly (although Ramsey's passing and McGinn's tenacity were also impressive).
Dendonk played really well, and Watkins' movement was sublime.
The back four were similarly superb.
And - a mention to the crowd: the atmosphere was up there with the best at VP.

What I found most impressive is that we never seemed to be giving everything, it was calm, cool and controlled with 1-2 extra gears if we'd needed them and yet we were opening them up in midfield at will, as dominant a performance as you'll see anywhere in the world this weekend. That it came against the team in 3rd who were on a run of 5 wins was particularly impressive. The pre-match thread was full of worry and yet we can be rightly disappointed not to have scored more.

A massive well done to Douglas Luiz today, absolutely superb, overshadowed Guimaraes imv and really set our tempo. The whole team were superb and like others have said I haven’t seen a complete team performance as good as that in many a year.

You could argue that today was better, because it wasn't in lockdown, which saw a few strange results in what were peculiar circumstances. Back then was a brilliant watch of course and I'll remember that game forever, but today felt more 'real' if that makes sense, and not just a flash in a pan.

Just back home. Breathtaking. Magnificent. Outstanding. From number 1 to number 11 and also the man standing on the touchline, and the 42k who witnessed it, absolutely phenomenal - running out of adjectives. For those of you old enough to have witnessed games during our 80s championship winning season, or if you've seen youtube clips since, you probably thought you'd ever see football of that standard again; neither did I, until today. Wonderful stuff. Starting to look unbeatable.

Yep, that's why I think this was better, not much in it though. Either way that was a proper home performance from a team that think they deserve top be top 6. If we see off Brentford and Fulham (as form suggests we should) then top 4 becomes a real possibility with us playing all 3 of the other challengers in the last 5 games.

I always had the 2-0 won over Sheff Wed in '93 as the benchmark performance (might seem strange to younger posters bit they were unbeaten in 17 at the time).

I think today was better.

Can’t wait to read Dave W’s take on that.
Absolutely superb 90 minutes and Villa Park was rocking
I love super Unai Emery
