I was at it again, decrying the Manager at the start of the second half for not doing something about Barnes threat and how Young was struggling, but he made me look a plum again.

What I have noticed over the last few games is that we seem to take the sting out of teams. They have a good go at it in the first half but then seem to run out of ideas and inspiration, it was happening last night even before the red card.

We always give teams opportunities, but throw everything at defending, make our own luck and come out on top. What a marvelous habit to have.

Towards the end last night I felt a genuine excitement that I haven't experienced since the days of MON. We will still lose games, we will go on bad runs, it happens but what we must do when this happens is show patience and we will get the rewards.

Finally, it's clear that Tony Gale shouldn't do West Ham games, he displayed proper balance in his observations and that clapper going all through the game sounded like a chippie at work in the stand.

I think, as with Chelsea, we need to honour the Leicester defence for their superb assistance work with one of our goals

I hate to say it as it rams home my own mortality, but that was the first time since his return Young hasn't lived up to his name. Barnes proper had him on toast.

Although his nous and experience did contribute getting Leicester down to ten men.
Unless the fullback is a pace merchant like Kyle Walker, Barnes can do that to anyone.

If under Unai we are to continue our great tradition of signing players who've played well against us then Barnes has to be a shoe-in for the close season

TV I respect your opinion but turning Barnes into reincarnation of Johan Cruyff is a bit OTT.

He’s exactly the sort of player who would improve us. We need pace up top and he has it. Chips in with a fair few goals too.
Yes but I think he’s been dead for a few years.

Fantastic away night, simply superb.

One thing though. Safe standing can't come quick enough for me. It was carnage in the couple of minutes following Bert's goal as people piled down the seats in front of them and a few doing involuntary falls down the stairs. It was generally good natured and you love to see the limbs from a last minute winner, but I'm black and blue this morning and I only ended up on the floor for a few seconds.

Fucking ace though.

I was thinking that reading the thread, would we be guilty - no idea how he does in other games but always plays well against us.  I think he could be a gem with Unai's coaching!

It was the sort of opposition goal you applaud. Pass, control, placed it so accurately. Just a great move.

Absolutely. I was irritated we'd conceded but sometimes you just have to accept that in the standard of competition we're in that players will produce some magic. It wasn't a goal to be pissed off about, unlike last time we played them and gifted them goals.

The pass, first touch control, shifted it quickly and then a clinical finish. There are minor points that you could suggest be improved but in reality you just have to do what we did; suck it up and score more than them.

We are already packed on the left. Last night, Moreno and Buendia linked up well, Ramsey, Digne and Coutinho can also play there. We don't need Barnes as well blocking their space.

IMHO, our immediate concern should be the right. The only good thing Bailey is doing at the moment is hugging the touchline, therefore stretching play and creating more space on the left for the above to operate. We are a Mahrez, Salah, Saka quality player away from competing for the Champions League spots next season. Be great if Traore steps up but probably not consistent enough. For now, save our money for sorting out the issues on the right.

Save "our" money? It's not my money. If two multibillionaires want to spend it, let them.

I was looking at Chris Suttons predictions on the beeb, he yet again predicted us not to win. The other predictor was a young actor and West Ham fan. He predicted us to win and that Villa sucked the life out of West Ham and would do the same to Leicester, with our passing. He said he meant is a compliment and i know exactly what we did, we totally dominate that second half, without creating loads, but largely just nullified Leicester.

Completely agree about Gale, he was good last night, where he was so one eyed a few weeks back.

I am so excited about whats happening.

There were a few opportunities where we failed to take a shot from the edge of the area when in a good position which was mildly frustrating but I suppose the theory is to move the opposition around to create space and a better chance. We appear to do this by, instead of passing at pace, slowing it down and drawing the opposition players onto us.

Is anyone else still looking at the bottom 3 and doing the maths as to whether we are safe yet? Bournemouth can get to 54 ("playing against each other they both cant win" is too complicated).

No just me then.

It's no secret - Emery has said he wants us to dictate the pace of the game and control it. For a lot of last night we did that, less so on Saturday.

It invites teams to come and close us down, then we use the space for the two wider midfielders of the four to move the ball quickly - either passing like Buendia last night or Ramsey on Saturday running with the ball. He was much more effective doing that vs Chelsea as he was playing on the left.

I didn't think last night was one of our better performances to be honest, at least until the sending off which obviously changed things massively. We seemed a bit pedestrian and our passing lacked a bit of zip and imagination. Bailey was anonymous and Buendia and and Ramsey have had better games recently. But what a lovely habit to be in of just finding ways to win games, week after week.
