From the Guardian MBM:

Quote
That’s pretty much put paid to any lingering hopes of Chelsea making a late run for the top four. In fact, any sort of European football next season is beginning to look unlikely for the Blues. But this should be about Aston Villa, who scored a couple of fine goals, could easily have had more, dug deep defensively when they had to, kept Chelsea at arm’s length for much of that second half, and saw the game out professionally. European football next year doesn’t seem so much of a stretch for them, who have now taken 13 of the last 15 points on offer in the Premier League. They’re going places under Unai Emery, and all of a sudden, next season becomes a whole world of possibility. (Not least because they’ll be wearing that new 1981-infused badge. Delicious.)

After we scored our first they really had us under the pump but after our second we looked reasonably comfortable.  How have they ended up with no strikers?

Pleased for you boys, beating our local rivals convincing, your got a decent manager now after the failed experiment with Gerrard, apart from you going above us!! hopefully we’ll maintain our improvement next season, so we can both try to get into Europe next season

Let's be honest, teams like Aston Villa should be going to Chelsea and wiping the floor with them.

Absolutely, that twat Gerrard hadn’t got a clue how to manage a football squad.

I was a bit worried about the tactical switch at half-time. What the hell do I know?

Those players were all perfectly drilled and knew exactly what they were supposed to be doing.

Let's give credit to Aston Villa, it's been an outstanding performance from them and it's never easy picking points up on the road in the Premier League.

Unai Emery is building something here with these players. It's never easy coming to Stamford Bridge but the way they managed the game limited Chelsea's chances.

Sky unbelievable now saying we didn’t deserve it as Chelsea had a lot of shots. They don’t say most of them went into row z

Aston Villa goalscorer John McGinn, speaking to Sky Sports:

[On how his side beat Chelsea]

Quote
"Run. They are a good team, it's only a matter of time before it clicks for them. We do a load of work in training to get goals on the transitions. Ollie is on fire at the moment, so a great goal to get us going.

"Everyone was flinging their bodies on the line. This league's difficult so to go on a run like we've done, and to stay so humble, to a man we were first class today.

"It's been a long time coming I was just fortunate the shot didn't get blocked. Just an amazing feeling it went in. After the Scotland win it's been an amazing week.

"I've lost count of the amount of times I've tried to lace it and it's been blocked. So I side-footed and it went in. I'm delighted and hopefully it will start a run.

"The start of the season was for me was extremely difficult. The manager, Steven Gerrard, was first class with me, he had a lot of trust in me but I didn't really repay that. My performances were below par.

"I spent some time on the bench and put my head down and worked hard. I got my chance to come back in and hopefully I can keep doing that and keep my form up."

The stats will say we were lucky..

I'd say we were professional.

Marvellous stuff. Always loved Doug but really flourishing now.

Same, I’ve always thought he’s always been on the cusp, but again he’s another player really unleashing that potential under this manager.
