Apparently Maguire is £50 mil if anyone wants him. Have Manure got that sort of cash to give away like that?

Apparently we’ve been linked with Pau Torres.

I wonder if the Saudi Arabia thing is making in a difference in that players are now considering moves there that wouldn’t have done a few months ago, so the ‘transfer merry go round’ isn’t happening as expected?

Milenkovic-Savic just gone there for around 35m. He's someone who'd have done very well in premier league with his style but Lazio were wanting 60-70m not so long ago.

This to me is a summer of quality over quantity. I'm not sure why people keep demanding we sign 6-7 players every summer when we've seen before it takes too long for some to settle in and others simply aren't good enough.

We know from end of last season most players have responded well to Emery so now it's a case of adding astutely so I'd say dropping Tielemans into a very effective CM unit is clever. Pau Torres is an outstanding signing so we're very strong in the central parts now.

Only issue other than the obvious of attempting to sign a decent final third player is injuries. Already we've lost Moreno and Ramsey for start of the season and europa play offs so our left side simply won't be as strong as it was in the run in although Digne didn't do too badly in final few games when he got minutes so have to hope him and whoever is infront can do the job in August.

For me, it is about both. Not sure re some of them not being good enough - maybe sign players that will be good enough? That's what Monchi is here for.

Next season is different - we will potentially be playing significantly more matches than the season just gone, we absolutely need more options, and if we want to press on, they need to be better than the ones we have.

We always talk about pressing on and making the next step - that needs better players, and those tend to be expensive. We've spent net next to nothing the last few seasons, this is a window to prepare ourselves to deliver.

Two forward/wide players of quality and another full back and I'll be happy

I quite like Podence at Wolves and apparently he is looking for a move .  I just wonder if he is one of those who looked good just against us

a) I think so, though he has looked really good against us, but b) he's so small he makes Buendia look the Andre the Giant, and we need to add a bit of height to the team not take it away

Plus a GK, but yes. That would be 6 new in total which would be good, wouldn't want to see too many out though considering the number of games.

Yeah, another keeper too unless Monchi is going to replace Olsen with himself, which to be honest I'd take, even at 54.

When Torres is confirmed we'll have 5 CBs on the books. Chambers goes from being 12 months ago the main back up to now 5th choice so to me we're very strong there if Torres comes in and is as good as he's been at Villareal.

Central midfield options: Kamara, Luiz, SJM, Tielemans, Ramsey, Dendoncker, Tim, Aaron Ramsey.

Effectively 8 options for two spots albeit two of those were regularly playing out wide for Emery and two others are kids.

So we're o.k there aswell.

For left back it's a shame Moreno is out but he'll be back sometime in September and we've got Digne on ridiculous wages who we'll struggle to shift just now so don't see the point in spending 25m on another LB just now.

Main thing we need to get right is the attacker we sign. Ollie might be a machine fitness wise but I can already see a problem of asking him to go flat out in europe on a Thursday evening and then demanding the same for the Sunday lunchtime match so we need more than Archer and Duran as back up this season.

So profile is someone who can play wide and then slot in centrally when required which is why being linked to Diaby fits for what we're looking at, Brennan Johnson aswell although he's less proven at the top level and would cost a similar fee.

Same here.  I'd take John Burridge back in over Olsen.

I wonder what our criteria for a goalkeeper is?

Do we want someone we can actually start in European/Cup matches? Or do we just want someone who is competent enough that on the off chance Emi has to miss a game, we'll survive 90mins without him?

Maybe we won't see any movement there until after the playoffs, just on the off chance we don't have as many games to play as we're expecting.

Hause is just here in name only. He did what was asked of him between 2019-21 but we've outgrown his ability so needs to move on if he can get himself fit.

Same reason as I didn't include Sanson and Marvellous in the CM options.
