Barnes off to Newcastle. Shame as personally wanted him here

That's really annoying. I hope we get a move on getting some attacking options in, as we're light as anything up front at the moment.

Same. Of all the names linked he was the one I'd have taken. I kept seeing it said Newcastle were favourites out of 4, but then most of the reports also said they were the only ones that had actually made contact with Leicester.

I suspect Barnes will do better there than he would have done with us. Something about him says 'Newcastle' more than it does 'Villa'.

What about his girl and their pending babby? He doesn't want them to toddler-talk Jawdie, does he?

Apparently Chiesa agent in Uk next week to talk about a move. No idea which club or clubs.

I know it’s still really early and the two signings we’ve made are brilliant but I think we all love our attacking players. I want one or two “fucking hell he’s brilliant” forward/winger options. Newcastle will be significantly strengthened by Tonali and Barnes. We need to keep up with them and the clubs we expect to be vying for a top 4 spot.

Again, not sure how in the know the guy at the Birmingham Mail is but in his last Q&A he implied that we wanted to sign an attacking player but had already been turned down by Chiesa, amongst others.

"Villa are super ambitious and will continue to try and land Emery's top targets. So far they haven't had too much luck with their forward targets, with the likes of Asensio, Williams and Chiesa all unwilling to join at this stage. Adding quality to those forward positions is a priority for Emery after landing Tielemans and Torres. Barnes is under consideration, but West Ham and Newcastle have both positioned themselves at the front of the queue. However, Villa is a very attractive option for Barnes for numerous reasons. Villa have a strong interest in Brennan Johnson, who could raise a huge sum for Forest this summer, with his value being in excess of £40million. Whether Villa will push the boat out for him or not, we'll see, but there's certainly interest. I'd expect at least four to join Tielemans and Torres through the door, with Emery keen to add a striker, winger, midfielder, right-back and potentially a goalkeeper to his squad in the coming weeks.
On Goncalves, he'd command a big fee this summer too, and it's unclear where he appears on Villa's list. He would add creativity and versatility in forward areas, but I'm not sure he'd fit the bill of exactly what Emery wants from a partner to Watkins. Other targets appear to be more suited to the system Villa used last season."

What Newcastle have done well is adding significant starting 11 players/fees
They’ve bought circa 6 players above our record fee in a short space of time.

Comes a time where we need to shit or get off the pot with targets. Eg if Emery wants a specific then we need to pay the fee and secure it. Feel we’re still very much in the haggling phase

Sounds like from that Brum Mail commentary that we're happy to pay fees but the players we want are aiming higher.

Get a feeling that some of our targets are waiting to see if any CL teams come in for them, and as it starts to become more evident that they're not coming, we'll become more of an attractive prospect.

I think there is a pecking order and I would imagine CL sides coming in for players we want are going to have the upper hand. There will be exceptions of course and we have to trust Emery/Monchi and team to find those players. And they’ve made a career out of finding lesser known players and turning them into stars so I’ll look forward to some of those. But it would be good to get some proper immediate 1st XI talent to truly push us on. The current group did superbly but you have to think that it has a limit to how far that level of performances will stretch. I would hope that by mid August we have broken our record at least twice if our aims truly are what we’ve been told they are.

There's also the fact that we've got one senior striker. One. We need to be getting people in for that apparently all important "full pre-season".

It doesn't look like it will be as important under Emery. Unless it of course is still as valuable as perceived, and if it is, the rate of improvement should have us winning the league before the end of April.

According to all the reports about Barnes to Newcastle they're paying 35mil. That seems very reasonable and unless there's other players that deals are already 96% done for, I'm not sure why we haven't actually made a proper move for him. The Birmingham Mail guy said he was definitely on the list of players we were interested in, but by all accounts Newcastle are the only ones that bid.

I sense a bit of panic creeping in on here. I'm sure things are being worked on and we'll have a few more players in. The window closes on September 1st so there's plenty of time. In the meantime, just all chill and enjoy the sunshine.
