Imagine being Archer and having just played in front of the Boro midfield for the last 12 months, and now having the prospect of this lot serving him up this season. He’ll be desperate for more minutes.
Almost got his goal tonight

My biggest concern is having Olsen in goal when Martinez goes on a weeklong bender after winning the Orange Cup

Does today make people feel better, worse, or unchanged about where we stand for next week? I feel a little worse if this lineup stands.

I’m not going to judge today in isolation. 2nd game in 48 hours and we still comfortably won. So unchanged really.

Taking the pre-season as a whole, I’m as excited about a season as I ever remember being.

That is very fair; I was thinking of today being more the “starting lineup” and neglected to think of the “two games in 48 hours” piece which could makes anyone sluggish. That said, we need to be able to handle the quicker turnaround. Unai will handle it, so that does not worry me. Just was unimpressed by the Torres-Bailey axis and concerned about that being the lineup on Saturday.

I agree that I am more excited than ever about this season!

The spell in which we absolutely ran that match tonight was marvellous to watch.

I will be amazed if we start with Torres at LB at Newcastle, or if Bailey starts.

At last, a companion piece in the trophy cabinet for the Peace Cup.

My biggest concern is whether the trophy room in the new North Stand will be large enough.

Doubt he will start with either Torres or Bailey next week. We looked poor down our left side with those two. I get the feeling that we won’t be signing another striker either but, by and large, we now have a fairly strong squad.

It's an obvious choice, but for now Emery is doing ok until we can get Howe.

For others who threw away a fiver on that shocking Villa TV stream, you can email them to complain and get a refund - villatv@avfc.co.uk.

The poor bloke's probably gone home now but they got back to me in less than 5 minutes confirming a refund (and blaming the feed they got from Valencia), so presume there's been a loads of complaints.  Yes, I'm tight, but if enough people complain maybe, just maybe, they'll try harder in future.

My biggest worry is Emery leaving us for Pelsall Villa as he attempts to complete the Villa set in his career
