Then in a month's time, we'll already have played 3 league games, 1 European and be preparing for the second leg of our Conference game in the evening.

I thought Coutinho looked a bit off the pace when he came on yesterday (understandable as he is just coming back).  Wouldn't be my choice, but can see the starting XI from yesterday being the one that starts the season.

I'd like the defence to be alot tighter for the Lazio and Valencia games . The ease at times that Newcastle and Brentford went through us (ball over the top) was a slight concern

New Mail reported was saying that Emery isn't concerned with leaking a few goals while we're trying new things out, and pointed to the goals we shipped against Leicester, Arsenal and Man City before going on a solid run

Sounds right, that's exactly what we should be using these games for.

It's far more useful to have a 3-3 draw against decent opposition as you try something different and errors are made than it is to twat some Swedish part time side 10-0 like we used to back in the day.

a couple of games like that are ok to start though, when it's all about minutes in the legs. This summer we've gone to the other end and out of 6 only Walsall could count as an easy run out and that fixture is pretty much sacrosanct.
