Anyone willing to predict a starting line up for Newcastle yet?

I thought Torres was supposed to be quick, didn't seem especially so today. It's still Konsa and Mings for me to start the season.
Agree , they are the best CB's at the club. Defence wasn't the issue last season

It's not like you to find fault with a new player so quickly.

Unsurprisingly for a friendly loads of subs create disruption.

At times we looked scarily good.

Anyone else a tiny bit concerned about Diego Carlos? Doesn’t look comfortable on the ball at times.

Not convinced by him on what I've seen so far. I think he'll be 4th choice to be honest.

Torres makes me more nervous. I thought after his early mistake Carlos grew into the game. Neither great but then the whole defence is a bit pick 'n' mix right now.

I thought Torres was on a bit of a hiding to nothing at left back, but still passed it around well, i think it will take a few weeks to settle, bit like it did with Moreno. Carlos looked ok i thought, but not as comfortable on the ball as either Konsa or Mings. I think we start at Newcastle with Konsa, Mings, Digne and Cash as the back four.
The midfield is so impressive right now, the composure of Kamara and Luiz and the energy of McGinn is some combination. Diaby looks great as well.
Watkins had an off day finishing wise, but the combination play between him and Diaby was impressive.
For me the only real question for the first game is who plays on the left, Beundia, Bailey, Bidace, Coutinho or a new signing??

It's not like you to have a passive-agressive go at other posters for having the mildest of opinions. Oh my mistake, it's exactly like you.

That might be the team but it's not the setup! Don't think I've ever seen us line up in a straight 4-2-3-1 under Emery; it's an asymmetric 4-4-2, McGinn starts from the right, Buendia inside left, and Diaby will play in the Bailey second-striker role.

I agree about Torres, I recall Moreno taking a while, as you said.

Midfield we have so many options.

Watkins still absolutely frustrates me, mind.

I thought the same, there was one moment when he wasn't even quick enough to grab the winger's shirt, let alone beat him to the ball. Carlos is also concerning me. SJM is a monster currently and long may it continue. Just not working today for Watkins, Buendia and Coutinho. The rest of them are playing some great stuff and Diaby seems to have hit the ground running (and scoring). Think we still need another striker and a specialist RB.

Like you do with, say Footy?

Calm down, just an observation.

Agreed. On preseason showings, Mings is our #1 defender imo. Thought Konsa was suspect today until the Hutton moment, but would still start him over Diego Carlos
