For those of us not able to watch, what is the defensive configuration like?

It’s not a conventional back 4 aside from Cash. The three CB’s slide across and are somewhat interchangeable as they cover each other. I don’t see using it a lot once Moreno is back and we pick two from 4 CBs. I won’t be shocked to see Pau and Mings despite both being left sided. But given Emery knows Diego really well from his time at Sevilla it could be him on the right at some point this seals next to Torres.

It's really difficult to do when watching telly, but watch Diaby. He is never marked because of his movement.  Sits in little pockets of space.  Terrific movement, pace etc. McGinn and Luiz are real driving forces.  To think we have the likes Of Tielemans, Ramsey to come in.  Our pace and movement is great.  Upgrades on Ollie and Philomene-Bidace, not because the latter has done anything wrong, but he's young and unlikely to give us a whole season, perhaps this is why we still want the likes of Ferran Torres, Doku?

Good half to watch.  The penalty, for me, was questionnable as Konsa dived in but didn't really make a lot of contact and their second was a class finish.  Our goals have been things of beauty, ripped them to pieces.

Some pre - season typical high scoreline but overall we seem to me a class above them IMO. No less. Mc Ginn very dominant in offensive midfield.

It's a pleasure to watch a Villa team playing with such a fluid style

Enjoyable half that.  Look a little shaky at the back, but Brentford haven't really threatened too often.  We have moved the ball at pace throughout the half and the movement has been good.

It's a bit pointless to read too much into pre-season games, but some of the attacking play is filthy

Konsa won the ball and just set off, never stopped until he'd walloped it into the net.  Totally unexpected and un-Konsa like.  More please Ezri.

I think we are going to really enjoy this season. We will always look to win playing attractive football. We won’t win them all but we will try every game. That’s all I’ve ever wanted in a manager and Villa team. For too long we have been so passive and there to make up the numbers. Even MON used to say “we will give it a go”. No, play to win and set up tactically to do that. Not roll up sleeve or socks, or we go again or look for magic. We have a manager who will work his bollocks off all week to set us up right and players who are buying into it all.

Diaby genuinely reminds me of how Mane played for Liverpool, got a very similar style indeed so if he's even half the player then 40m is a bargain.

Tim Howard is very good on co-comms.

Is that who it is?  He's good to listen to, very tactically aware.  Far better than twats like Hinchcliffe, Smith and Goodman!

the ball over the top of that high line is the obvious concern going into the new season

Currently 28C but looks hotter there. Should be plenty of changes coming.
