Pre-season 2023/24
« on: March 22, 2023, 06:42:58 PM »
Anyone heard rumours that this year our summer training camp will be in the US? Supposedly we'll also play three games including one in Orlando (presumably to cater for the large no. of Villa fans who enjoy visiting Florida).

Not heard anything this side of the water but it wouldn’t surprise me with a US based owner. And if any the rumours are true surrounding Vegas then getting extra exposure for the club and affiliates wouldn’t be the worst idea. Throw in a mainly US World Cup in 2 and bit years spending some time in a massive market with many PL fans is always good for the pocket. Plus it allows folks like me to get out and see them. So I hope it’s true.

Has to be true. There are more Spanish speakers in the USA than in Spain.

Yep great point. Expect us to have games in Florida, Texas and California only. We will be a fully Spanish language side by then also. Solid for growth in the Mexican and much of the South American market. A cunning plan.

My guess is, this will be another year when they won't be visiting the Emerald Isle.  It was a staple under BFR and we had visits from MON and even one from TS2.

About time we changed our pre season lower league opposition in the schedule. How about Stevenage ?

i know man united, chelsea, arsenal and wrexham (!) are all playing US friendlies in the summer.

i wouldn't be surprised if we were as well, given the owners are trying for that las vegas mls franchise.

Burton Albion too.

Plus a home fixture against a team with no Spanish speakers in it, so they don't get a whiff of our tactics.

I've never been to Florida. I've no interest in Miami or Orlando or anywhere like that but the Everglades look amazing. I couldn't help but like how mental Las Vegas was, despite not being into gambling.

The politics of Florida is shit. There are many parts of Florida that are just superb. Vegas is a destination for specific pursuits but Nevada can be wonderful if you like the outdoors.
