Look at the best penalty takers Ronaldo Kane Haarland none of them mess about running around in curves, stopping and running really fast on the spot or delaying the shot hoping to see the keeper move to one side, it’s all an absolute load of bollocks
They just put the ball down stand on the edge of the box and bang it to one side of the goalkeeper really hard It’s fucking simple. The fact that professional footballers especially strikers can’t hit the ball properly from the spot to one side of the goalkeeper at pace is quite unbelievable really
I know not every penalty will be scored but if you take them properly no messing about you’re gonna get nine out of 10
So I would just pick the Villa player that takes a penalty like that whoever that might be
Completely.
Our best penalty-takers in the last 2 or 3 decades were Gazza Bazza and Benteke

El Ghazi was comfortably on a par with them.

The woeful penalty miss by our main striker and the apparent lack of anyone else wanting to step up and take them doesn't bode well for any future penalty shoot outs in the Europa league. Personally I think Matty Cash would be a decent option. At least he knows how to smash a ball hard.

I did say Cash should take it to the bloke next to me but I forgot he missed against Brentford.

Penalties will always be missed if the goalkeeper makes a great save that’s fair enough for me
As long as the shot was hit hard on target the goalkeeper’s got probably 15-20% chance of saving it

I can’t remember the cash penalty, but if it was a good save to one side of the goalkeeper then I haven’t got any problems
Anyone doing a hop skip and jump in the run-up can fuck right off

Oh yeah I forgot about that one. I wonder if they do any work on the training ground regarding penalties? If not they should be.

It was definitely more "good save" than "bad miss" IIRC.

It's almost comical how bad we are at penalties, it's neck and neck with us making 10 men look like 12.

So was the McGinn one I believe. They both went to keeper right and he guessed correctly and lept far enough across. Ironically both would have scored last night and Watkins would have scored if the keeper had gone as far across as the Brentford keeper.

Malen was due to be first choice (had he been on he pitch), according to McGinn's post-match with Pravda. When is he ever on the pitch though?!

Against Brentford, Ollie didn’t mess about. Quick deep breath, a couple of steps back, little shift to the left and bang — drilled it right into the side netting. Keeper had no chance, unstoppable pen. Last night though, he took forever over it and honestly never looked like scoring. Buendia’s pen looked decent enough, he seemed confident, but I’ve no idea what his actual record is from the spot.

He'd gone by then last night though, hadn't he?

Our recent record prior to last season was pretty decent:

2020/21: Scored 5 (El Ghazi 4, Watkins), Missed 1 (Watkins)
2021/22:

2021/22: Scored 4 (El Ghazi 2, Ings, Watkins), Missed 0

2022/23: Scored 4 (Ings 3, Watkins) Missed 1 (Watkins)

2023/24: Scored 5 (Luiz 5), Missed 1 (Luiz)

It has fallen off a cliff since Luiz left, though.

2024/25: Scored 6 (Watkins 2, Rashford 2, Asensio, Durán), Missed 4 (Asensio 2, Watkins, Tielemans)

And obviously we are 0 out of 1 for this season after yesterday.

Knew we should have stuck with Ings and binned off Watkins instead.

We were right getting rid of Asensio though, useless twat.
