I think it’s a legitimate debate to have that Martinez is the best goal keeper in the world right now. And he’s at Villa. That’s amazing to consider.

I don't follow much football outside of Villa, so I am not knowledgeable like many on here, but some things are intuitive. If there is a better keeper in the world right now, he must be fucking amazing.

I'm slightly too young to have seen God (I started properly supporting us in 1996/97) and we've had a handful of excellent players in my time, but Martinez is the first I've seen that is self-evidently world class in his position.

To my mind, you’ve got Alisson, Ederson, Courtois, Ter Stegen and Donaruma, Neuer and Oblak with Emi.

Alisson has been off it for a bit.
Ederson I think is quiet overrated and gets away with a lot in terms of coming out of his goal and taking people out without punishment.
Donaruma I don’t think has been on it since the Euro’s.
Neuer I think is on the decline and is now out injured for awhile.
Athleti have been off it this season and I think are prepared to sell Oblak.
Ter Stegen is fantastic as a sweeper keeper but in terms of penalties and the sort of saves Emi makes, not as good as Emi.

So I think you’re looking at Courtois  alongside Emi and we know who had the better World Cup.
